I also found this beautiful Amanita cheelii


Proper season is a while off so for me it’s a joy to find any mushrooms in January.

The weather this summer is crazy, curious if this is triggering early fruiting, or if they can and do fruit earlier depending on water and temperatures.

@obtuse: We had massive rainfall over 29/30 of Jan. From my experience, a couple of days of significant (20mm+) rainfall is enough to trigger this species to fruit. The very mild summer has definitely helped to keep things lush and damp.

Hey Obtuse, do you hunt the high country in western Tassie? I find P.subaeruginosa fruit as early as February in Northern NSW at altitudes of 1000m+. Western Tassie is cooler and plenty wet comparatively so it wouldn't surprise me if they're out there now.

No, I don't, but on my to-do list. I know how damn cold it can get on the west coast, and assume fairly early start, it is just getting out there! I recall reshroomED collected often out that way when he lived there.
