150ml at 1% with around 1.5g LME

Can a thin solution of MEA (too thin to gel) substitute for LME?
Just asking since I have a bunch of MEA.

If it works, I'll do a post, and reply here.

Gotta wait until my first grow / second flush pins get big and I can pick the fattest, tallest, fastest growing one.

I will do it. Maybe do a gram into 200 ml water. Half what a thin solid agar would be.

Do you think I should cook some rice, strain it, and use rice water with MEA?

I wonder if doing it from a pin would be cool. Like more stem cells or something.

You could cook the rice water and filter using that as a lc broth:shrug:


You can use almost anything for your broth.

Personally, I wouldn't add any nutes to any grain broth

I once did oat broth, millet broth, and combined oat and millet broth. one of them out-performed the others, but I don't remember which.

Mushboy,

When you say use cold water, do you mean chilled? Or do you mean cold as opposed to hot, i.e. room temp?

I just shook .5 mg MEA in 125 ml distilled water, room temp. If no congeal by 48 hours, I'll toss that, make twice that, PC 15 min after steam and stopcock, let cool, then throw in a flake of myceluium from the jars I have growing on grain (and verm, for some reason. lol.)

Nate’s got a thread about sslc with a tiny big of agar to thicken it up and make it stick to the grains.

Works pretty well and easier than making regular li.

Well I'm an impatient idiot. 3 days after inoculation with some pretty good growth happening I shook the piss out of it BEFORE reading to see if that is advised or not, so I'm going to make another one.

I was planning to do this anyway because the first attempt had a ton of sediment for some reason (my malt extract is pretty old). This time around I won't shake it.

But, how do you break the myc apart once its grown? Do you just swirl it? Does it come apart on its' own? I've noticed several people use broken glass/marbles but you don't.

Thanks for takin the time to write this up, even though noobs like me don't follow your directions :facepalm:

He meant don’t shake the jars after putting the lc in them. I beat the hell out of the myc in my lc, the more you bust it up the quicker it grows.
