Welcome mate! Advantages in favour of grain jars. Higher nutrition, lower cost, easy observation, the ability to shake for fast colonization, control over moisture content, possibility for further expansion (g2g) jars are reusable as are filters/lids. I'm yet to see a decent yield from an Uncle Ben's grow. If you don't want to buy a pressure cooker the PFTEK/BRF is still the go-to method for beginners

:whathesaid:

Steam sterilise cakes, then spawn to bulk. You can do this indoors to a mini mono, or outdoors into the ground or a pot. Don't even have to sterilise manure or straw. Too easy

Very curious about the earlier posts about the ph of Brunnings coco to be too acidic — has anyone else found this?

Great explanation. Thanks Bob. I could tell from the popularity of jar reference that there had to be advantages, but being inexperienced could not figure out what they were.
I love being able to learn so much. Such a great forum.

never had any issue, the only time i do when it comes to the coco coir is if i use boiling hot water to expand the brick. I find it tends to increase contaminations as it cools and is ready to use.
I have recently done a cold/room temp v.s boil and the boiling one always contaminated.

OK, thanks, that's really interesting. I've lost several shoeboxes the last month due to trich and I've been pasteurising with boiling water straight off the stove in an esky and left overnight — it's surprising how hot the coir is the next day and I have to let it cool before spawning to it.

Maybe I'm over-pasteurising and making it susceptible to contamination?

yeah i use to do the same, but in a big white bucket. I also glen20 the fuckery out of the room every few days now as well.
Build an new SAB out of some garage shelving and pvc sheeting.

Give room temp water ago and see if that helps

So I thought I would try using basic takeaway containers with a brf mix.
Most sterilised ok but I let the pc dry out and one melted to the tray/trivet. Fuck me that was messy and stupid. I needed you reheat it in the cooker to soften it up again then poke the trivet holes from the bottom to crack away at the melted plastic.

I salvaged the mix and put into jars.
I plan on inoculating them up tomorrow.

I’ll post updates on how this batch goes.

I like to see what else I can use. Sometimes it’s because I haven’t been bothered to buy more jars. Sometimes I want to see what else works

I know the ones you’re talking about spaztastic. They look good. We only have a few of them and they are for kids lunchboxes atm so my wife will kill me if I use them.

Reject shop have some good wide mouthed pp5 round tubs with screw on lid. We have a few and used them well before. But same as the others. I don’t have many so I’ll need to buy some just for mycology.

yeah, i reckon they are brilliant!

and when its consolidated, empty in to a tub, sometimes there is a little mycelium or grain left in the jar. SO i put coco coir and vermi in to it and grow off that too hahahaha

After three days of rain in Hunter Valley, I embarked on my first serious hunt. Hoping that the mushroom Gods would look favorably upon a noob,I went in search of cow poo.
Plenty of poo, but not much fungi sprouting. Perhaps another day or two.
I did find these little girls, Deconica Coprophila. Identified by someone more skilled than I.

Looks like a promising spot. Deconica coprophila are often found growing in the vicinity of P.alutacea. Oh and keep a look out for P.subaeruginosa in the high country. I'm sure they'd be coming out of hiding soon.

Is that your site :P

$55 for 1 print.....

Where is it shipped from?

I am hoping, in time, to do something similar hence chasing more prints.
I know that there is a massive market in the US, even when shipping from Australia and especially in the states like CA, ID, and GA where possession of spores are illegal altogether.

Still gauging costs of setting up a shop and branching into Spore Art, Live Cultures (Edible ONLY), Syringes, Needles, Vials (as well as separate stoppers, caps, crimpers etc).
