I kinda agree and kinda don't. I think it's important to acknowledge if you aren't positive on your answer or if you haven't done it first-hand.

But at the same time, throwing out what you think is true is a good way to get corrected and learn where you're wrong. Wouldn't want to discourage that.

The best thing imo is let your thread soak a few hours before going with a piece of advice. There's not much in this hobby that requires immediate action and if you post something worth debating in mushcult odds are someone will challenge it.

I absolutely agree with that. As long as you state your limited experience then it's fine but that isn't what I mean.

I'm talking about the advice that comes across like it's a sure thing when it is later shown to be unequivocally wrong by one of the trusted cultivators... If you haven't successfully produced a multitude of flushes... State your newbness first.

I actually did exactly what you said the other day. I answered a question with what I had read was the answer but with a warning that I am a newb and that they should wait for someone else to confirm it.

You make a good point worth noting though. There is nothing wrong with some speculative discussion as long as it is presented as such!

Yeah i try to do that as much as possible, but i dnt knw anyone, myself included, that likes walking on eggshells all the time.

It seems like it's best to not be that sensitive to it. Like, not take it personal. You will most likely never have any control over anything that anyone else says or feels. It appears we only have control over how we take it.
Not long ago i shared my opinions and observations on a post, which asked for just that. I was openly dismissed without hesitation by people with "more experience" than i. I defended myself of course and they thumbed their nose at me. But it's no good loosing sleep over it or even getting heated about it.

And like lurker was saying it's not soo bad to let people discuss it as they will and then decide from your point of view what to do with the info that appears. That way it doesnt seem like your trying to control people. People dnt like that.

There are threads where only TCs can answer questions. For the rest, it's a discussion forum. Part of the process of learning is also teaching others. If those lessons are wrong, then a more experienced grower or TC will correct them. It's hardly a disturbing trend. It would be a disturbing trend to disallow noobs and inexperienced growers from helping out others.

Sometimes the wrong information is given out. That's an unfortunate side effect of an open forum. That information rarely goes uncorrected.

Have you encountered any threads with TCs arguing amongst themselves? There are many aspects of our hobby that are ambiguous, and depend on the person's own experience, what they can purchase and their climate.  What works for the goose doesn't always work for the gander.

There are many who swear by SHIPs and equally as many who swear against them. Is a person who suggests a SHIP wrong to do so? Of course not. SFD, Tyvek or Polyfill? . Plastic or metal lids? Monotubs or shoeboxes? Modified or unmodified tubs? Spore print or syringe? HPoo or CVG or 100% Coir? These things and many more are due to personal preference. Arguing for one or the other hardly makes one person wrong.

All fair feedback. It's also become clear that there are differences of opinion between people with experience and that's also been interested reading.

To be clear, I was referring to the situations where someone was obviously talking out their ass and usually they got ripped for it by someone later in the post.

Nonetheless, I'm gathering from the responses this is getting that people are okay with a more open forum for discussion. No wish to censor anyone from airing ideas. Was more concerned about the integrity of information people like me are trying to gather from the people here with genuine experience.

Please... I didn't make a ridiculous request. I asked inexperienced people to state their lack of experience when giving advice for the benefit of all.

And if you are a long time member of the forum with experience in this area then I clearly wasn't talking to you.

I've been on many, many forums since the internet was formed. There is an art to wading through the nonsense. Look at post count, I don't take advice from low post count members too often. Read, read, read...dont count on someone to answer every question that pops in your head. Try to search out the answer yourself first. Try to fact check responses to sort out the correct info. Look for general consensus among the people who are achieving success.

People will never stop answering questions they don't have answers too. It's just the way it is.

I just follow TEK's that people smarter than me figured out lol. Then i use that information to pass along to others. However that information could be misconstrued. Maybe just pointing someone in the right direction is the best advice? :shrug: copy paste :smile:

You can blow what I said out of proportion all you want. Saying it's impractical and poorly thought out does not make it true. Your immature response was impractical and poorly thought out. Now go bully someone else because I'm not impressed by your big mushroom forum muscles.

For those of you who politely pointed out how futile my request was and offered reasons why, I hear you loud and clear and will observe. I appreciate the constructive feedback.

Just playing. Cultivation is up for discussion as their is much variation on how it can be done. I will agree that having over-confidence when giving advice can be kinda risky.

The reason it is impractical and poorly thought out is because it would have to be a rule and everyone would have to be informed. And it would be a massive total society change.  so do we want big red letters on top of every page that say

"Whoa Brah would really appreciate it if you can let everyone know you don't know what you are talking about before you talk about it"
