Here's one of my 2 first shoeboxes one is 1:1.5 Spawn to coir the other is 1:2

So the first one is pretty much done colonizing, my issue is there's a bit of super moist coir by the edge because of condensation..


Otherwise the surface conditions look super sexy..


Should I open it up and dab the excess moisture away or should I just let it rip and wait for the pinset?

id maybe crack the lid or slightly ajar but leaving it alone to do its thing is also good.

Hope this pic shows up. New grower, started in early April. This is my 2nd shoebox ever (first was 2 BRF, did okay), 10 days after spawning about 400 pins showed up!!??!?? (Pic is day 12).

B+ LC to premade (bought) 5 grain jars (whatever, I was in a hurry). Shoebox is 1 quart spawn to 1.3 coir, with 1/2 coir topping. I have 2 more shoeboxes coming 1 day behind that look like they will do the same thing. 

Shoeboxes are awesome!  So glad I found this tek and the brf-to-bulk tek before doing individual bfr cakes!

Sorry for the double post.  This one is his little brother, about to explode with pins. I love this picture from just after misting. Its like a magical winter landscape, glistening with possibility.

Is it a problem if water droplets form on the lid after 5 days and drip onto the substrate? The surface actually looks very good. My lids are just slightly concave, so that droplets form right in the middle.

You can wipe the underside of the lid off with a paper towel whenever you want, or just when the condensation forms large droplets like you are talking about, which would only be every few days. If some droplets fall onto the surface, just soak it up with the corner of a paper towel. It may take a few dabs. When those big drops do fall, you definitely want to soak them up otherwise you end up with a puddle and once that puddle dries your surface in that spot will have a smooth glossy texture and wont bead up anymore. Which usually hinders pinning in that spot.

That's what I thought. I'll go and dry the lid.
Maybe I'll also warm the lid a little and bend it in the opposite direction to avoid this problem in the future.
