I'm playing devil's advocate here, but what is the government actually supposed to do then? Aren't laws telling us how to live? If you go to jail for rape or murder isn't the government telling you how to live and judging you?

It's not that I think the gov't should get in people's business, but in this case I just don't really care if they do.

Last time I checked it was the church trying to pass laws to boss others around, not the other way around so I dont get this"leave the church alone" crap. Give me a shout if a law is passed requiring dildo usage during a sexual encounter.

P.S- I would like prayer to be illegal because it really isn't doing anybody any good.

There are lots of people trying to ban prayer in and religion in public, people have been sued for having Christmas Trees and instead changed it to 'holiday' trees. It goes both ways.

For the record I'm not a Christian. I actually practice Zen Buddhism, but positions that are hostile to religion are bossing people around just as much as people that try to enforce religion.

Yeah, that was just hyperbole. The point was that at some level government does regulate society. I think the collective morality thing does have something to be said about it, but that is up to citizens and not the government.

I was going to defend my position on not defending sex toys, but I don't think I'll defend that either. Obviously my opinion is purely abitrary and unprincipled based on my own apathy so the apathetic thing to do would be to let it drop.

Well, I guess all that bossing around is good then huh? Cause as long as both sides sling shit then it must be the right thing to do.

As an athiest I see no problem with prayer wherever people want to do it, but if they get me in trouble for not participating then I'm mad. Hell, I celebrate christmas but only for Santa's sake. I just find it bizarre you are telling the people who don't want to have their lifestyles criminalized to essentially shut the fuck up.

I wasn't saying that. I just said I didn't really care. I guess you are right though, the law shouldn't be able regulate stuff like that.

I would personally like to see prayer banned everywhere, including private residences and churches. It is well documented that it contributes to the greatest evil in the world today, the endemic psychosis of a belief in god or any other imaginary friend.

Can anyone cite the actual case law relating to this? I'd like to see if it's some 1920's era KKK type law, or something new that the majority of the people seem to agree upon. If the majority want it, no matter how stupid, backassed and ignorant it is, they brought it upon themselves.
