IMO, their attention to detail not their discoveries  is what makes them magical.

My wife just left the house in a manner that I find dubious.

The contents of her purse were scattered on the table.

She collected the contents of bills, receipts, RFID enabled credit cards, an I-phone and other miracles of modern science and put them back in her purse.

There was also an acorn that my daughter found and put in the purse.

"Won't be needing this", she said as she tossed the acorn in the trash.

I had been reading this thread shortly before this went down.

It struck me that the only thing that is of no value now is the only thing that would have held any value before this age of constantly accelerating innovation.

It leads me to the notion that in the world we've created for ourselves we need more scientific discovery and technological innovation to get us over the hurdles we've set in our paths.

But does this really improve our lives?

Does it really enhance the experience of being a human?

Does an I-PHONE have more intrinsic value than an acorn?

I'm skeptical.
