It can reduce the wonder with words and dry terminology.

All this time I've missed you

I said can; think more about a textbook on botany with all the Latin identification. I've read that some scientists in that field have thought it a travesty that their science lays so much on the terms that it forgets the reasons for studying a garden in the first place.

In the Wscottsdale universe:

Botanist 1: What do you think of that green thingie over there with the spikey leaves?

Botanist 2: The one behind the bushie plant?

Botanist 1: Isn't it cool how plants eat sunlight?

Botanist 2: Yeah, too bad we don't understand how it works although that would make it less magical.

Really?
Can you maybe explain what that statement means and for which reasons a garden is being studied in the first place?

You know what else is no fun? Communicating at the speed of light with people all over the world you would never otherwise meet.

That really sucks!

One of the passages I was referring to:

Quote:
As botanist Sir Patrick Geddes wrote: "Intellectual activities have their verbalisms, their confusions and misdirections and these may also accumulate into what are practically diseases. Every science, of course, needs it terminology but all have suffered from the verbosity of nomenclatures amd, notoriously, botany most of all. Thus - apart from the systematic names for each and every species and order which are of course indispensable - there are some fifteen or twenty thousand technical terms in the botanical dictionaries of which many have survived into modern textbooks to the perplexity of the student." In an essay, commenting on the strange power of big words like "heliotropism," Bose said that they usually acted like some malevolent magic to kill curiosity.

~The Secret Life of Plants, pp. 100

At some point on the x axis abstract thought ceases to have meaning.
