"Children from religious families were less likely to share with others than were children from non-religious families. A religious upbringing also was associated with more punitive tendencies in response to anti-social behavior."

Well, most Christians in the Christian nations are, as Gandhi said, pretty un-Christian. If by that term you mean anything resembling Christ-like. The dyed-in-the-wool conservatism and selfishness doesn't surprise me. Can't speak for the other nations involved.

I dunno, my grandparents lived in a small town in the panhandle of WV and were Catholic and very community orientated and helpful and charitable. I'm sure everyone knew everyone in such a small city. My mother, however, did not raise me with religion because she grew up with mean nuns in Catholic school and was essentially snubbed by the Catholic church for getting divorced when I was very young (like 2yo). I grew up with Santa and the Easter Bunny, we never spoke a word of Jesus. I grew up with a lot of liberal white person guilt , my mom made me give away everything I didn't actively use to charities, things that were sentimental to me. Old Atari systems and games, Shell Silverstein, Dr. Seuss books, and I was a very sentimental little kid. I did not like this. She turned me into something of an ascetic. I've remained that way ever since, aside from a few luxuries like a $3300 laptop, a server, and some raspberry pis to play my media, I don't collect much stuff. Virtually all my music, videos, and books are digital at this point, whatever tangible materials I gather I give away. Most of my media I P2P.
-------------------- Everything is better than it was the last time. I'm good. If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care. It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence. I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too. If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

Religion in general is a really broad variable to study. Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hindu or Buddhism, any one of those religions I feel would have been a more specific variable to investigate and would provide more satisfactory data to draw a conclusion from.

Sounds like she did you a favour there CJ! I came from quite the opposite, and one of the main things that seems counter to my character in the eyes of those that know me well, as well as my own eyes, is my materialism.
