We should eliminate minimum wage
    #17238158 -

We should eliminate minimum wage and keep child labor laws and slavery crap, this would fix the economy.

so just out of curiosity, you aren't actually planning to remove wage labour laws for the good of citizens, but for some... idea it will fix the economy to re hire slaves? How exactly will re hiring slaves fix the economy? It will change the crediting of people applying for small business loans so others will re hire, raise the Dow Jones a point ever day, and remove the monetary debt issue? Wow, what a well clarified idea, thank you

It will allow us to pay immigrants just a bit more then they were making down south.  This could be hugely beneficial..  The only time I think minimum wage laws ever benefitted me were when I was 16yo and a lifeguard making minimum wage.  I mean why not just say everyone gets 100k a year minimum.  Where do you stop.  It ends up decreasing the value of everyone elses labor

But the evil businessmen would just make us work for free. The state needs to mandate everyone receive the same wage for we are all equal.

no it allows big corporations to not price fix the wages and make us essentially slaves

It interferes with a fair market valuation of your skills which, if you are making minimum wage, you don't have.

We need cheap labor, especially farm work. Minimum wages hurt the growth of business, so stifle the prospect of more work being offered to more people.

This approach to the valuation of labor belies the truth that also some jobs, although they require less practiced skill and knowledge, still have high value in their necessity for completion.

Plus, there is some worth in doing a job that people simply don't like doing.  You are selling your own pleasure (for that moment) in exchange for a higher income.  That's why a honey truck driver makes more then a gas station clerk, while both require little skill, one involves coming horribly close to sewage and physical labor (while the other is in a relatively comfortable  and controlled environment).

Then the market will have to pay enough to encourage them to do the job.

just because you think the minimum wage is arbitrary doesn't make it so. it's like saying "why not just pay people in food, they don't need shelter or medical care". obviously we should pay people a minimum amount so that they can have a life.

everyone cant get 100k a year minimum because most businesses that are tiny DON'T MAKE 100K A YEAR MINIMUM

you know this is something I can't quite understand. You swear people on wall street who decide to buy large shares of companies, and unions, etc. are never greedy. You realise the minimum wage is a MINIMUM WAGE, not a maximum wage. If the minimum wage is removed, what's to say companies will pay you based on a fair assessment of your skills? What's to say they'll pay you anything more then like $2 an hour?

Down here in Fl table bussers used to get paid $1.75 an hour, because according to restaurant owners, table bussers got tipped out at the end of the night, to even their average out to $5 an hour. Which was total horse shit. What guarantee is there that if the minimum wage is lifted, everyone will get paid fairly? The minimum wage isn't a set standard for corporations, it's a MINIMUM wage. it already shows how cheap most companies like Wall Mart are to just up and throw that wage on someone. I'm just confused at the idea that lifting that regulation would now suddenly even out the fairness in paying hired labor

subsidise, you mean welfare? Well isn't that nice, because working for money is the opposite of welfare isn't it? So you believe then, that laziness shouldn't be rewarded with welfare(which, btw, getting a $900 check in the mail every month, sure doesn't seem like Park Avenue living). By that same standard then, hard work SHOULD be rewarded, instead of laziness, right? So then you believe a person who works their ass off should get paid very well?

See the thing about work is if there is a glut in the laobr force wages go down. Also bussers are unskilled labor so the value of there work isn't very high. If minimum wage was removed wages would probably stay in the same area they are now. Since no one is forcing these minimum wage workers to work for a particular company the company can pay whatever they please. If the pay is to low however the workers will simply quit and work for a company that pays more.

Sure and generally people who do work hard do end up making it were as people who continue to whine and make excuses fail in essence that is how life works.

You just mentioned that, for example, busboys are performing jobs which aren't considered to have high value, that these individuals are unskilled. You then conclude that, if the pay is too low, the workers will quit and work for a company that pays more. Yet this seems to be nothing more than theory. It's easy to imagine that unskilled workers could have difficulty finding work that paid more, considering that such work would also not be valued highly. Thus it's also easy to imagine them continuing to work a job that doesn't pay enough for them to support themselves because it's all they can find. This would typically mean that they would have to make significant sacrifices of their standard of living in order to survive. This could happen to the degree that it poses much more cost to society as a whole than it would to enact minimum-wage laws that ensure that anyone who performs a full-time job can not have to also stay strife with poverty as a result.

That said, I don't really hold an opinion as to whether or not it's better to have minimum-wage laws, but I think it's easy to see two sides to the matter without a lot of conclusion as to which one is right...

If I owned a restaurant, the busser would be an ESSENTIAL part of the business, without him, other customers could not come in, and sit down at a cleared and re set table. Perhaps you've never owned a restaurant? I haven't either, but worked one time for someone I knew who was the owner as a busser. It was one of the cooler jobs I've had. I got the least bitching at of everyone there, as long as I did my job. Sure, if I was a restaurant owner, I couldn't pay the busser like $18 an hour or something ridiculous, but now you are claiming without minimum wage laws, a busser surely COULD be paid $1.75 an hour. Over here a busser now must be paid $5 because labor laws stipulated that a busser surely doesn't earn $5 an hour in tips.

I think this is the problem with business owners, they are greedy and lazy and expect too much from their employees without reward. If I was business owner, I would visit my business every day, and make sure it was being run right. Also, I'd value my employees as my most valuable resource. You get what you pay for, you want a nice place you pay for nice resources, nice floor, nice walls, nice everything. If your restaurant needs to be run right, then your employees should be treated very well, as if they aren't, they will do a bad job. If you slack on your resources you'll get what you pay for.

I personally think going half ass on your business means you don't give two shits about your business. If I had a business, I wouldn't live by all these spoiled lazy standards thrown around. If I had a restaurant, I'd have over 600 types of wine, and my employees would be paid very well. I've been to a place that had over 600 types of wine stocked.
