Asking "why" implies that there is a reason to exist.

We don't exist IN ORDER to survive. Thats backwards. In order to exist, we survive

The human race must survive if it wants to go on existing. Thats just logical reasoning.

Are you looking for something deeper?

Well we obviously can't exist for ourselves to survive since we all individually die; it's inevitable.

But I guess you could say that we exist today for the survival of our species.

I think we are all smaller units that make a larger unit. Each unit has its own destiny and purpose for the greater well being of the larger unit.

Some smaller units rebel to try and create their own destiny, which is foolish since everyone's individual destiny is to perish, so these rebellious units die without purpose. Others are keen on their importance in their niche of society and eventually die with a purpose.

Thus, we can all choose why we exist. And although our paths may differ, we all must meet the same outcome. Eventually, only our deaths will tell the true story of our existence.

The real question is, why did you make this thread?

“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

you will never know.

The dinosaurs didn't know that they existed to provide fossil fuels for future inhabitants of Earth.

They may not have even had a reason for existence until millions of years after they were extinct.

Just like, we will never know or may not even have a reason.

Maybe once human kind dies out, the earth will be Toxic-Rich and have Amonia and Nitrogen coursing through it's veins ready to support a life form that thrives on these conditions.

All in all, Earth is the host, and humans are the parasites. Generally, parasites are given little regard to the purpose of the host. (Unless you're talking about symbiosis, which, we and earth are far from symbiotic)

Reason doesn't apply to existence. Existence is the backdrop within which reason forms. Existence itself isn't really reasonable, yet here we are.

most of humanity can not accept your simple response so we look to creat something deeper.

We are trapped between a rock and a hard place and there is no way out except to lie to ourselves. It takes great courage IMO to accept our temporary nature.

Did you know that our bodies are host to more bacteria then there are cells in our bodies. If one thinks about the implications of this there is no way one could see themselves as more important than anything else.

actually, they can still claim that the universe is here for conscious beings such as us humans.

Life is a truism. It exists because.. it exists. Things survive because they just keep on surviving. According to atheists, simple life ended up providing the potential for more complex life to occur. According to lots of humans on the other hand, life as we know it is too complex to be the product of unpredictable natural forces. Some people have faith in God, other people have faith in scientific conjecture.

If you want to understand the origin of life any more than this, you are going to have to use your imagination and cook up some semi-plausible explanation based primarily on intuition.

Anyone can claim anything. So what? Without evidence it's mental  :whacker:

Well I dunno, maybe we are over complicating the brute fact of existence. Its a bunch of non sense, its not verbal or symbolic... our consciousness just is and its hard to valuate it one thing among many all of which is interdependent. But then again the self conscious body, a higher intellect, is pretty unique compared to the vast amount of inanimate matter. Fate? Well it already is... how do we account for our absurdity even though its already in your face, but it is always becoming and changing.

BLAH!

What is evidence, but a claim? Would you even know evidence to be that other than a claim? How could evidence of WHY, on such a subjective topic, be presented? I don't see it as a possibility in this form. Perhaps if you experienced existence from the beginning of existence to the end, then maybe you could formulate your own evidence claim.

Actually, people can claim many things as long as they don't make contradictions, and understand how their claims differ from other peoples'.

If you want to take the sensible, conservative route and believe only in processes that have been described, then that is up to you. But no evidence brings total certainty in matters metaphysical. In the end, everyone takes a leap of faith. You might take a short one. Some people, however, are compelled by social or otherwise confusing thoughts to take grand leaps of faith.

Well yes. I'm referring to those grand leaps of faith.

the exact existence of the rain, however? Unknown. In such simple things as that, we have enough evidence to comprehend it on a conceptual level. In terms of things like why we exist or just why the universe exists, on the other hand, all of the leaps of faith are large. One may as well find a way to exist in ignorance of the answer.
