I would try to isolate spores from the caps and germinate on water agar. Morel mycelium is very visible once it is growing on water agar:

Isn’t it technically already contaminated though?

Agar is to help clean it up. You have to do it strategically with morels as they degrade with each transfer. Trenching and cabin sequestering work very well.

Oh god, got a warning the thread was officially ancient. I've been making some real progress with sclerotia production. Culture work is key here. Out of 15 or so Petri dishes I've made from the same spore streak, 3 or 4 have turned out to be exceptional sclerotia producers. I'm going to be sending this culture to lots of grain spawn and putting it out in the barn for the winter. I'll make a post next weekend once those jars are ready.

Also, I would be very interested in hosting a giveaway of some morchella rufrobrunnea swab sets I made from some morels fruiting out of a woodchip bed. Probably a great candidate for cultivation.

If some folks would be interested in participating I can make it happen. I would appreciate if you receive a set to actually do something with it and contribute back to this thread in someway. Don't have to tell anyone how or exactly what you're doing if you don't want but share some progress or cool pics when you can.

Whole brown rice
Thin layer of wood chips to separate the layers
Then topped with CVG and a little bit of sand mixed in. Was going for the sub I pick morels out of in the wild. Sandy Loam, like potting mix but heavier

Got those spores you sent me on agar a few days ago. This M. Americana looks crazy. Like it’s trying to break through the petri. Don’t know if that’s normal or not. But thank you nonetheless! Going to be following this thread again since I got some going now.

Just found new information that confirmed my theory about fruiting triggers, I’m going to get back on the horse and start my morel projects again while i have renewed interest!

Scoped out some new cultures and observed something interesting. They have this little node structure in them that I have not seen before in a morel culture, atleast not in this quantity. Wonder if I'm just catching it earlier in the life cycle or if it's differentiating

So I suck at culture maintenance, I have let all of my morel cultures die off except the Penn state rufobrunnea because i forgot to put them back in the fridge

I was wondering if anyone here has these species and would be willing to trade, I’m especially interested in the first one
Sextalata
Eximia
Exuberans
Eohespera
Importuna
