Which feels better? Love or hate?

Without a doubt for me love feels completely beautiful. It is fearless and totally relaxed. What could be better than that?

The seething sublime intoxication of power?

Not IMO. Hate or striving for control is tense and fear based. But it is the most common choice by far among humanity.

Love is ephemeral, but hate is eternal.

I would like you to demonstrate how you know that hate is eternal. IMO no human emotions are eternal. It of course feels eternal to the ego immersed in death anxiety.

I was being hyperbolic.  Passion usually dies out rapidly from a relationship.  Vengeance, as motivated by hatred, usually lasts a lifetime.

Now, whether or not this is a good thing is entirely up to you.

What does passion and romantic relationships have to do with love?  (answer- nothing at all) These are business deals and nothing else.

Passion requires two people to maintain itself--is this what you're getting at when you refer to a business deal?

Hatred, however, only requires one person, and thus is much more easily sustained across a lifetime.  With two people, the chances of passion dying are instantly doubled.

Please listen to me. Love has nothing to do with passion and romantic relationships. You are comparing hate to addiction or folly. There are always conditions on romantic relationships and if one person losses the passion the deal is off.

I have a hard time believing in unconditional love; never experienced it myself.

It's very rare indeed if it really fully exists for humans. I would say I have glimpsed it and been given it and for a brief time felt open to it. Really though I'm not sure anything is perfectly black and white.

I prefer the term unconditional acceptance. It's easier to get my head around. Accepting things the way they are no matter what you would prefer; friends, lovers, situations, life. When you can do this to a small extent you tend to get warm in your body (especially the chest) and you feel relaxed and open to things, even scary things somewhat. Love is not about who likes you or who you choose to like. It's all encompassing acceptance of what actually is.

Not an easy thing for me or for most humans it seems.

Seems that this is kind of a defeatist attitude, though: it provides no incentive to change a crappy situation if you can just accept one's suffering.

Don't confuse acceptance with apathy.  IMO, denial of reality is far more likely to result in being stuck than is full acceptance.  You can still prefer something else, and even work towards creating different circumstances for yourself and others, but you begin by accepting and fully acknowledging the current nature of what IS.

The key to this is realizing that aversion is a form of attachment.  When we refuse to accept what IS, we attempt to push it away & we experience aversion.  This attachment is what creates suffering, not the circumstance we are rejecting.

word!

A most common misconception. I try to alter things I don't prefer but by accepting them first I can get by very well if I can't change the situation.

Words can be used anyway you want to. Unfortunately understanding the intent of a word continues to go over some posters heads no matter how often it is explained to them.

I believe that Cypher was referring to accepting one's own suffering.  It would require quite a cold and disconnected personality to love someone else's suffering.

Acceptance just is recognition and what follows then is love (or not). Acceptance alone doesn't make love and is not replaceable by it as you see with my example.
Of course first one has to accept that one is suffering before helping him/her (or oneself) out. But helping out is the act of love, not that pure acceptance which came before.

Helping someone may or may not be motivated by love, but it is certainly not love itself.  Love can exist without helping someone and helping someone can exist without love.

Hmmm paraphrase 'help' with 'doing good' in his/her/oneself's own sense.
As far as I see, all those acts are based on love. Conditional love

And yes, sometimes the best help is no help.

Same thing, "doing good" may or may not be motivated by love.
