My advice is to find those things that give pleasure and do them often without too much attachment and relax and wait for the show to end.

I like free markets and all. Truly I do, at least in general, but there needs to be some kind of oversight in recognition of sustainability. Life works the same way, on a bunch of sustainable systems. Why not honor what made us what we are and take some lessons? Nature FTW!

i've recently begun looking into this for myself, i was really interested in the idea people would believe written history was altered so drastically from what actually took place.

yes that was me. it was nothing personal, i do it to all posts i find that say they're official when they're not.

my reasoning is, how would you feel if i made posts like
"the official reasons why the shroomery sucks"
"the official NE gathering"
"the official who is the best looking person"

i don't think that people should speak for the shroomery, unless the leadership actually wants to make it official.

Being "official" is a matter of opinion - it has nothing to do with being endorsed by the administration.

When I was doing a history report I once found that of the 11million executed in Concentration camps only 5 million were Jewish. The other 6 million were socialists and democracy activists. This is probibly the main reason why American support for the Nazi regime was so profound.

This has always always been a source of infuriation as a pro-democracy socialist whenever I hear a Jew or Jewish organization call critics of Israel's policy in the middle east antisemitic.

I don't think qutoting an article with out adding anything yourself, is a contribution in the first post of a thread- especially when no sources are provided for a controversial topic, and one that doesn't go to the heart of the matter, did the holocaust happen substantially similar to what's claimed?

zappa, do you believe in the holocaust in the sense that the word is usually used?

I disagree but that's a reasonable disagreement. There can be zero disagreement that what I said about fireworks_god's is 100% accurate. And Luddite did link the whole thing, he just didn't post it, which I find admirable restraint.

Yes. 100%. Without regard to what position is taken by the phauxtographer, phauxtography presented as a documentary is always wrong. It is a lie and an attempt to manipulate. Unless you are some super suction fuck doll I'm not interested in being manipulated.

Now, I don't know where Luddite stands vis a vis holocaust denial. It will disappoint me a great deal if he is, in fact, a denier. I'm part German myself and I have never gotten any abuse over it. Sometimes you just have to tell people they are retarded and move on. It's their problem, not yours.

I don't deny the holocaust happened. The problem I see is that Stalin killed more people than Hitler, but the media pays a lot more attention to the Nazis and their war crimes compared to Stalin. Pol Pot and Mao weren't too great either. I guess the Nazis are more entertaining and had better uniforms compared to the communists. Hitler seemed to be more of a dramatic speaker compared to Stalin, too. The west was able to get plenty of film and pictures of Nazi Germany which are played over and over again on TV. There doesn't seem to be too much about Stalin that the media uses. The media probably makes a lot of money from the Nazis, almost as much as they do from Elvis.

I dono man you ever see how much media attention in historical documentaries and such Stalin's purges get I think it's proportionally similar and that is surprising considering the secrecy of his government internally with regards to them. Whereas the atmosphere in Germany about it was quite open and even included public participation ie. the night of the broken glass, where German citizens were smashing and burning Jewish businesses.

Anyway the arguments over what totalitarian government is worse here are childish and stupid. Not to menton the worst ones I've ever heard

The media pays a lot of attention to things that it shouldn't. Remember the OJ Simpson trial? It's good to be critical of the media...but earlier in this thread you were trying to say that the Nazis weren't that bad because the blame for their rise to power should be placed on England and France. If you are trying to bring attention to Stalin's attrocities, than why are you starting threads about the exaggerated nature of the holocaust? Start a thread about how Stalin starved 4 million of his own citizens to death. Otherwise you just come off looking an apologist for Facism.

Luddite, I think this is perhaps the best post I have seen from you.

A few things to consider:

The US protecting Japan from the atrocities committed against China
The atrocities committed in USSR by Stalin after the war

Finally, I seriously doubt the media makes anywhere near the money from Nazi film footage that they make from Elvis film footage. (In a way, this shows just how messed up people's priorities are; more concerned about entertainment than life.)
