On Faith and Bank Accounts

This is mainly for those among us with faith in God or fill in whichever supernatural thing you prefer:
If your bank one day told you that your account balance was zero instead of what you thought it was, you would not take that on faith.
You would demand a detailed statement so you could verify the arithmetic. If you found errors in the statement or if the bank was unable to provide one, you would be upset, possibly hire a lawyer and so on.
Does it make sense to demand evidence for something as petty and trivial as money yet take on faith something so supremely important that you architect your life and world view around it?
Someone please splain this to me.

The reason you would not take a zero balance on faith is that you have evidence to the contrary. (Deposit receipts, olds statements, cashed checks)
There is no such evidence to the contrary for belief in god(s).
Of course that doesnt justify at all building your life and world views around a belief with no evidence. The conclusion of your claim makes sense, but I dont think you have constructed a valid argument.

what a great observation man, and a good reason why i have no faith in anything supernatural, and demand evidence for what i believe.
my thinking however for the people who do have faith is that they want to believe. and because of the very fact that it IS so important to them don't want to even consider the possibility that it is wrong. add in a possible "response to prayer", and conscious thought blocking of opposing views and you now are in the mind of a religious person.
another theory is that people choose their beliefs on fear, which is probably at least partially true for every human being. the problem however with religious fear, is that by its very logic, if you question it you will be punished. this may put some people at a sort of limbo mental position where they are at worst disbeliving and at best skeptical of their religion, and act as if they are not religious (i.e screwing people over, murder, rape, all the while having a cross around your neck) while they really have their religion as a SAFETY NET in case their wrong.
good analogy would be to use religion as a get out of jail free card.
belief is truly an interesting phenomenon. if you research cults you'll see that people have been trained to believe some fucking insane things. cough scientology cough

Take it back a step. Realize that the way your bank could mislead/lie to you about your bank statement, the same way that your society/culture could lie (although usually they believe it even more earnestly) to you about a reason for existing.

I highly doubt the drive up teller can compare to an entheogen induced realization of what might be called God.
