Polarity is an illusion.
    #774977 - 07/25/02 06:04 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

I was looking at a vesica pisces when it dawned on me that the middle of the two interlocking spheres is the same shape as the human eye.

The two spheres uniting represents the union of oppposites. We live in a world of polarity. Male and female, light and dark, positive and negative, hot and cold, etc. We are made up of this stuff.
But polarity is an illusion. There is always the "middle-ground". With male and female you have a child. With hot and cold you have warmth. With the right and left hemisphere of the brain you have the corpus callosum. There are actually 3 components of every thing; the triad (triangles, pyramids, etc). The triad is the key to ascending 3rd dimensional reality...
(I think the ancient Egyptians knew this).
Feel free to add your own thoughts and insights. I don't care if you disagree with me, but please do it respectively. I don't like seeing this forum turn into a place where people are afraid to voice their opinions for fear of being attacked by packs of hungry wolves. Thankyou, and have a wonderful existence.

But polarity is an illusion.

I am constantly thinking in terms of Eastern thought so here are my 2 cents:

The idea of a ?middle ground? is very Buddhist- finding some moderation between extremes. And this does suggest that there are ultimately no dualities in the world.

I think Taoism (and Zen) would say that the next step is realizing not only is there a middle ground to every perceived duality, but in reality there is no dichotomy (or trichotomy) in the first place- perceived entities always depend on and convert into each other and ultimately there never was a difference.

Evil depends on Good to exist (If there was no evil, how would we be able to gauge what is good? They're relative to one another)- the absence of one entails the absence of the other- their ultimate interdependence on each other suggests that neither ever existed unto itself- neither exists (inherently)

There are a lot of good books on Eastern thought out there. After reading quite a few, my current all time favorite is "The Way of Zen" by Alan Watts, and I got this recommendation from guys here at the Shroomery (Thanks!). His ability to convey the ideas of Buddhism, Taosim, and Zen to someone from the West is really remarkable, better than any other I have read.

If you want a review of the doctrines of the Eastern religions, I would pick up a comparitive religions book at the book store, something that will compare and contrast each. I also like "What the Buddha Taught" by Walpola Rahula. This is a pretty black and white description of Theravada Buddhist doctrine (Orthodox Buddhism), not as much thought provoking elaboration, but very lucid.

Alan Watts (pretty much anything he writes) will really get you brain churning though.

Relativity...it's a necessity. Without the bad, we would have no knowledge of good. Without the dark, we would not appreciate the light.

I believe Unity, or the Absolute, is where we came from..and it's where we will eventually find ourselves again..but this stage of duality is equally important.

hmm the way i see it is best put by that one barbarian guy from grandia 2
he said something along the lines of:
there is no good nor evil. it is like a flame...fire can keep you warmth during times of cold but if you get to close you will get burned.

everything needs balance. for every action therse a counter action...thats where karma comes into play. i would go on blabbering but im really tired so good night =)

I sorta agree with you and I sorta disagree.

Seriously I really do agree with you.
I've posted about this many times. It's like an open secret that changes your life once you realize the average person in operating in a black and white world. So many conflicts could be avoided if people would get a little more comfortable with complexity. You hear people give lip service to "there are two sides to every coin" but when you see their actions it's a whole nother ballgame.

When you hear people talking about good vs. evil, us vs. them, you know you're hearing someone trapped in that view.

well said above...any idea suggests the opposite..in this way the Tao is brought into perfect balance....

For reading, ESSENTIAL...

The intro seems pretty cluttered, but scroll down and check out how thin the wisdom parts are (very clean...very, very delicious)..
Have fun!

I disagree with what I just said.

Come to think of it, I never agree with anything I ever say after I say it.

It just popped into my head while I was thinking about triangular shapes. If the pyramid does have a square base, I guess I need to re-think about it...

I?ve heard the Egyptians had a secret initiation society located inside the pyramids, one for each "Eye of Horus", or side of the brain.

It just seems to me like they used the pyramid as a shape to conduct some sort of ascension out the top.

I agree that good and evil are just perspectives. Everything can be evil *and* good in someone or something's eyes.

In this world of polarity, the darkness touches everything in one way or another.
But so does the light. And the light is where spirit comes from. It sets life in motion. The light is love, the love is warmth. The light allows the water to become liquid, the water nurtures and gives life to things like plants and animals, which in turn sustain us. The one universal rule that we seem to have here is to keep Creation going.

Life comes from light being held in the darkness of a mother's womb.

too, Draig.

Opened my mind to new things.

"I?ve heard the Egyptians had a secret initiation society located inside the pyramids, one for each "Eye of Horus", or side of the brain. "

There?s a couple chapters about this in "Nothing In This Book Is True, But It?s Exactly How Things Are", along with a great chapter on sacred geometry. but unfortunately a lot of the rest of the book is just too... a certain i don?t know what. heh

The Right Eye of Horus was a twelve year schooling by Akhunaton in Egypt, to teach about the Law of One, the sacred geometry, basically all the logic of how everything was created by spirit.
The Left Eye of Horus was another twelve year schooling of the emotional body right-brain. supposedly "All the temples in Egypt were built for Left Eye of Horus trainings. each delt with various emotions, feelings, fears, both positive and negative aspects of the chakras.

The vesica piscis is sacred geometry, which is in turn all over the Flower of Life and the Seed of Life. each intersecting circle has the ?grey area? where two squares and two equilateral triangles can be drawn.

it is also contained in the Fibonacci Spiral, where each curve segment is in phi ratio to its golden mean rectangle., as is the vesica piscis.

Good Stuff!

thanks on that recommendation, i just picked "Way of Zen" up yesterday and started it tonight. very interesting, extremely thought-provoking, or, heh, lack thereof.

good excerpts so far:
""the centipede was happy, quite,
until a toad in fun
said, "pray, which leg goes after which?"
this worked his mind to such a pitch,
he lay disctracted in a ditch
considering how to run""

"For it is really impossible to appreciate what is meant by the Tao without becoming, in a rather special sense, stupid."

"The perfect man employs his mind as a mirror. It grasps nothing; it refuses nothing. It receives, but does not keep."

Wow, your getting me excited to read it again. I think Watts is brilliant, although I have only read "The Way of Zen" and "The Book: The Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are." But I also know that it is important to find an author that you can connect with. I know a guy who feels similarly about Ernest Hemmingway.

If your digging it still, read it again later and again after that. I have no doubt that what he is saying will only become clearer and clearer each time. And like was said previously, "The Book" will blow your mind (depending on what you have already read I guess). No, it will blow your mind anyway. Pick that up after you finish "The Way" if your still interested.

Oh yeah, one more thing. I first got "The Way of Zen" a while back from a friend who recommended it is a good intro to Zen. I read through about 10 or 15 pages and for some reason, I wasn't quite ready for it. Then recently I decided to expereince a 1 gram trip just for experimentation. When I started coming down I decided to try reading and picked this book up. It took me a while to get through about 20 pages but this was mostly because I was in this constant state of "holy shit, fuck yeah, WOW." I put a sticky on the book to my non-shrooming self saying "Finish this book...just do it!"
