Of course, the effects of this occuring had nothing to do with "Jesus", and certainly doesn't act as substantiation for such an existance, but simply the effects of reassuring oneself. Take any approach one wishes - tell yourself it is Jesus saving you, tell yourself that there is nothing to fear in death, simply relax and don't tell yourself anything, but don't associate the mental effects of creating for oneself a state of being through one's thought processes as substantiation for the reality of a phenomenon existing beyond the realm of one's own mind.

When some are faced with an experience of the immediacy of their death, they simply come to terms with the impermanence of their present existance, relinquishing their attachment to the form that they presently hold, and any subsequent tension or fear dissipates. Of course, some reassure themselves that death isn't actually death, through an adoption of preconceived beliefs handed down to them through others. If one is faced with death, and one believes that it isn't actually death, or rather that one's identity as one has come to find it is going to continue on, even though nothing beyond the fact that we desire to feel as much gives us the idea that we will, then I'm sure it will act as reassurance as well.

It is kind of like riding a roller coaster and closing your eyes before it drops straight to the ground, saying "I'm not actually riding this roller coaster, the sensory information my body is collecting is just an illusion, etc. etc. etc."... of course one's fear of the plummet will be alleviated if one conditions oneself to the point that the mind doesn't actually believe the present experience is happening.

I personally find that surrendering myself to the actuality of the present experience is much more effective, as my existance subsequently becomes less transparent as that which I identify with is my experience of reality, the act of such subsequently allowing myself to know and to understand the nature of reality more clearly. Consider it like being a mirror, if you will.

We further seperate ourselves from reality by formulating all of these conclusions and perspectives that arise, not from the manners in which reality has presented itself to be, but rather our perceived need to feel comforted and reassured in the face of realizing the overwhelming mystery and unknown nature of reality.

There is no need for Jesus in order to alleviate our death anxiety if there is no death anxiety. Why should there be death anxiety? Death is real. Human beings die. Alleviating our fear of death, stemming from our attachment to life and our desire to be permanent, can either result from coming to terms with the reality of the matter, allowing the Unmitigated Light Of Reality to dissolve that which obstructs our experience of reality, or from assuring ourselves that the greatest unknown of a reality that exists almost entirely as unknown is actually known.
