I liked it! Already saved it to send to some friends that won't read it here. Thank you!

1. You will receive a body...
Obvious. No knowlegde or wisdom here.

2. You may or may not like the lessons...
Wow! The depth here is amazing.

3. Trial and error...
Science has taught this for many centuries.

4. A lesson is repeated until it is learned.
And then repeated again and again AFTER they are learned. And some lessons are discontinued BEFORE they are learned.

5. Nothing new here.

6.

7. You cannot hate something about another person unless it reflects...
Total nonsense. I cannot hate a child molester or a liar that misleads his country into war unless I also have those tendencies?

8. You have ALL the tools you need...
More nonsense unless we are going to completely redefine the word 'need'.

9. The answers lie inside you...
Certainly depends on the questions. A zillion posts on P&S from those looking for such answers does not bear this out.

10. Whether you think you can or can't you will be right.
Uh huh. A delusional person who thinks they can fly will still plummet to their death if they leap from  a tall building.

These vague and useless 'guidelines' are no better than a fortune cookie or astrology reading.

The best way to live
is to be like water
For water benefits all things
and goes against none of them
It provides for all people
and even cleanses those places
a man is loath to go

Yeah, lists of platitudes are always kind of fun and inspirational, but rarely provide any actual perspective on how to live a life without getting shot or contracting AIDS or starving to death or feeling like a failure or beating your loved ones or pursuing your more dangerously illegal sexual peccadillo's. The word "Lesson" is always used in weird context in little pseudo philosophies like this one, and I notice they always use this kind of semi harsh, authoritative tone. "This is what will happen, and I'm the voice of experience, and not a 35 year old home maker in Nebraska who's figured out how to work email and wants to sound profound." Personally, I'm a bigger fan of those inspirational posters with the kittens on them. Especially the one where the kitten is just about to fall off the tree but he's hanging on and it says "Hang In There!". I tear up a little every time. That little guy. He's such a fighter.

Also, #7 is a little sociopathic and leads one to some possible bizarre conclusions.

You're funny.:monkeydance:

This is very good stuff here. New information for some and a reminder for some and a reason to display distain for others.

If you want to go somewhere then a fortune cookie is enough.

Maybe you have and maybe you haven't. It is up to you to determine whether you have done that. Mwahahahaha

I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

I think you are taking this to literally. Nobody leads the exact same life as another, but still we are able to empathize. The key here, is it is referring to emotion. See, if the action didn't actually reflect some sort of understanding of the attitude, or impulses behind this crime on your part, you could only interpret it as a completely and absolutely senseless crime. Having no understanding of the impulses behind this crime in any sort of way, there wouldn't be any way you could bring yourself to hate because of this. You could wish it didn't happen, but the point here is, without empathy, love or hate could not exist.

Compare a child molesteror to something that could be only interpreted as something truly senseless: Your friend randomly gets struck by lightning, and dies, merely out of bad luck. It would be hard to derive hatred from just this instance, unless you somehow feel you can empathize with the laws of nature, or god, that "took him away".

As a sports coach (not a 'Life Coach'), my instructions are clear and unambiguous. If a guideline is subject to a myriad of possible interpretations, is it not merely a Rorschach ink blot?

I really don't think anyone who reads it will think it's meant as the true meaning of life.  It's a quirky, humorous post.  One of these might be in order  :courtjester:

I wouldn't send this to my friends hoping to profoundly change their lives.  Just think they would get a kick out of it.

any interpretation of these guidelines is entirely subjective.

vague could mean subtle or poetic in another person's eyes and useless could just as well be perceived as inapplicable without a context to the variables of one's life.

Direct response please:

How is it useful to tell anyone that they have a body until they don't? Who of the mentally able doesn't already know this?
