Cults

A brief overview of cults.

Cults are a dangerous thing... stay away from them if possible in all walks of life, attempt for a more objective overview in all your affiliations. I was raised a christian from the time i was young, and then brought into a more extremist form (Jehovas Witnesses) by the time i was 7. I disdained every moment of it, but learned a lot about dogma. I resisted my parents attempts to get me into their unhealthy support group from a very young age, ending the association with said group completely and utterly by the time i was 11. My father is still undecided whether or not he still wants to be in it, he expresses interest in going to the meetings, yet is stubborn, and won't retain an objective outlook on the group and apply the same principles of logic he would to say scientologists as he would to the Jehovas Witnesses. Its a warped cyclical outlook that predominates thoughts with the perception given of thought their all good people who are a part of it, yet even if they or most of the general populace of their order have the your best interest at heart it doesn't readily detract from the fact that it is a cult.

Are you part of any cults, affiliated with any goups that are cults? In what way are your affiliations with your groups not partial to a semblance of cults? Are any cults good (not an analysis on techniques but on group organization and doctrine)?

Their are always exceptions to the rule.

Cults are only dangerous to weak minds.

Weak minds are really dangerous.

By strong you mean ego driven? Then yes, maybe.

But a really strong mind wouldn't mistake such things I would think.

Yes, 'somehow' it will boil down to 'ego driven' or narcissistic, super self-convinced. Maybe one also may define that as 'weak' as well.

'Too strong' may be an illusion (regarded as 'strong'), like the hormone built body builders, which then leads to direct blindness of alternative perspectives, which probably could have saved them from self-induced decay.
Existentially defending a 'blind [weak] faith' as their 'ego'.

Oregone: No, wishful thinking, and a codeword I can't remember put into google-picture

ummm.... by definition of the word cult, the shroomery is a cult.

So yeah, everybody, make sure to stay away from those cults.

oh, maybe you meant cults that only have a popular stigma attached to them?

CULT
1 : formal religious veneration : WORSHIP
2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents
4 : a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator <health cults>
5 a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b : the object of such devotion c : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion

the word "cult" is such a buzz word. By its definition, it has no negative connotation, except maybe by the religiously intolerant.... but in the media, and everywhere else, it has been said with such disgust that it has become conditioned into the majority of society to instantly conjure up images of dark, hooded rituals going on in underground caverns.

Do you not find it grossly hypocritical to say "Dont let anyone tell you what to think".... doesnt the statement negate itself?
Dont let those scandalous cults tell you what to think, let me tell you what to think!
maybe you need to go back to the drawing board on how to express your over simplified and vague hatred of groups of people.
