An increase in temperature delta. An equal increase in temperature (a constant offset at every data point) across the entire system would have no net effect on the driving forces, at least from a thermodynamics standpoint.

Now that's just irresponsible. Especially since we do have electric cars that can be put on the market and public transportation can still utilize increased funding. I hope you're not going to suggest that increasing the funds allocated to public transport would be part of some leftist conspiracy.

I wouldn't dream of suggesting that. I'm saying we are fundamentally not taking responsibility for the impact our lifestyles are having on this planet. Trying to get by with pasting a band-aid on an aneurysm.

It is hard to discuss global warming without discussing some level of ecology. Thus I would like to bring to the table, a little information regarding amphibian populations. All statistics and information regarding species numbers, and taxonomy have been taken from the Global Amphibian Assessment in 2004.

There are three major groups that make up the taxonomic family known as amphibians. These are: Anura (frogs and toads), Caudata (salamanders and Newts), and the lesser know Gymnophiona (Caecilians). There are 5918 known species of amphibians. 34 species are known to be extinct. However, 9 of these extinctions have occurred since 1980. Even more astounding is that approximatly 130 species are thought to be "possibly extinct," and another 1896 species that are globally threatened. According to the Global Amphibian Assessment, this amounts to one third of known species.

There are many causes to this phenomenon. An obvious one is habitat loss (the greatest threat to reptiles and amphibians everywhere.) Habitat is in fact the greatest threat of all. But the next most common threat is pollution. Around 1200 species are threatened due to pollution. But whats even more astounding, is a fungus (a very popular subject on this forum) disease known as chytridomycosi. This disease has become an epdemic amongst frog populations. While disease doesn't play nearly the role that habitat loss and pollution, the decline due to diseases is much faster, and can wipe out a species in a very short time. But whats interesting about chytridomycosi, is that it's believed to be spreading even faster than other diseases. According to an the journal Nature, the diseases spread is due to global climate change and rises in temperatures. Global warming is making these disease spread "faster."

Whether you believe in global warming or not, pollution is having a drastically negative affect on the world. Observing amphibian populations, and the rapid rate they have been disappearing since 1980, and even more so since 2000, it is undeniable the affects of pollution and global warming. And if that doesn't affect you, here are some pictures for you to mull over.

Before the global warming paranoia it was the ozone layer depletion that was affecting the amphibians. Make up your mind.

Global warming is working hand in hand with ozone depletion to offset the delicate balance of the ecosystem. More efficient cars will help solve the looming oil crisis, maybe even reduce CO2 a bit, but the most major contributor to C02 waste lies in the energy industries, mainly electricity. The energy industries account for around 21% of CO2 output, which is a huge chunk. Transportation is like half that, yet, all the burden is being put on the masses to tighten up their CO2 efficiency, but its the energy industries that need to reduce coal burning-related pollution.

GreatDictator didn't make any statement regarding ozone depletion. Also science is self-correcting.

Amphibians are susceptible to contamination. It's not the ozone thats effecting them. It's the acid rain, and the ground water contamination from run off from roads. Amphibians drink water through their skin.
Acid rain has to do with green house gases and cars but it doesn't have to do with the ozone.

That's an unwarranted stereotype. Also, I did present solutions like switching to electric cars, increasing public transportation, altering the publics diet and researching meat cloning.

Electric cars use just as much fossil fuel, if not more, than gasoline cars. Unless it comes from nuclear energy and that has a whole other can of worms. Increase public transportation? I don't see that as much of a solution or a possibility. The loss of flexibility alone is enough, not to mention that it is effective only in densely populated areas. There will still be trucks carrying goods, people driving to work and then someplace else during the day and then going on vacation, with the concomitant need to recharge from coal burning sources their electric cars.

Altering the diet? I think we've had this conversation before and I abhor your big brother solution. Meat cloning? What the fuck are you talking about?

all i read here is: umm, more government, bigger government, umm, more regulations, etc etc....lemme guess, more taxes too?

the only way to stop energy expenditure (greenhouse gas emission, pollution, etc) is to increase cost of energy. then people are forced to stop using the energy because alas, they cannot afford it. "hmmm, do i eat today, or would i rather watch TV?" not really a tough choice.

They'll probably continue to blame Bush long after he's gone. Some of them will probably hallucinate that he's the dictator for life. If so then our next president should be free of critisism from the far left.

Humans have ceased to evolve in any biological sense. The engine of evolution is early death, by which I mean before reproduction, and that is pretty much over. Homo sapiens is in fact probably in a devolution stage, since losers are fawned over and propped up by winners. Biologically speaking, of course.
