My second trip - Psilocybin therapy
    #6616613 -

This is my first post. Im an 18 year old male, living out of state attending a four year university. I've been lurking around on the board for a while, and im excited to hear your feedback!

I had my first trip on 3.53g of psilocybin mushrooms about 8 weeks ago. At the time, I was going through a rather tough time emotionally and was on 10mg a day of lexapro/seeing a therapist weekly for depresion and anxiety. I had an unbelievably philisophical trip- I felt such a connection to humanity and brotherhood, I made so many positive connections about human relationships and breaking down barriers in my own life. It was amazing- I started tapering myself off my anti-depressants and soon discontinued therapy. Im beginning to experience moderate/severe depression again, and im planning on using a smaller dose of mushies soon for a second trip when I am back home, in a safe environment. Rather than eating them for enjoyment, or even spiritual enlightenment, I want to do so therapeuticaly. Im going to concentrate on the social issues which are causing my depression and see allow my consciousness a different medium to sort them out. I plan on going back to my therapist tomorrow and resuming therapy without the use of anti-depressants (I was no longer sad when I was taking them but the "zombification" they gave me made them a terrible experience IMO).

A few studies have come out with success in treating OCD and depression through this form of therapy- but their results are small and not much research has been done.

Has anyone else attempted something similar to this? What were your results?

My girlfriend of a year and a half will be there with me as well. She will be my sitter and will be asking me questions that will hopefully direct my thoughts. I would very much like to use an audio recorder as I describe the way that im feeling and what I am thinking.

Thanks!

By the way, a search revealed this thread:(http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5749438) which helped slightly. I am aware that this could be a painful experience, but that is part of the catharsis IMO.

I'm most interested in what your thoughts are regarding having a sitter attempting to direct your thoughts.

good luck with that. you said your looking for therapy and not enlightenment. i think enlightenment could be pretty damn therapeutic and a sitter may be a good idea because the depression could come back to affect your trip and if so you could need someone there with you.i'd say go for it and let us kno how it goes.

Believe me.. enlightenment is exactly what im searching for.

I just meant that I didnt want my trip to be a "mystical" experience- more of an introspective one.

If you're interested in this sort of thing, I would urge you to read up.

LSD might be a better drug to try, however, it depends on you. I personally prefer shrooms, but some people react with a much more workable trip when on LSD.

I've experimented with both. The combination I've found most effective is as follows:

I take a small dose of shrooms, roughly 1g, and give the second person 3.5g. From there, I do psychotherapy. Part of why this is a good combination in my opinion, is because my mind is able to be VERY creative. It allows me absolute clarity with what I'm doing. I also have success when I do this sober, but it isn't as flowing, or effective (IME).

If you want to do this, I recommend someone who knows what they are doing. At the very least, someone who has experienced psychedelics quite a bit.

This is a good start. From there, work out to more literature. I like the works of Stanislav Grof myself, as he has some very interesting things to say.

Best of luck!

I think I understand what you're looking for. May you find it! You've gone through stuff not a lot of us have. I hope your share of suffering is already fulfilled and brighter days are just around the corner. I'm glad to hear that you have someone special in your life who's so supportive.
There was a post not long ago by a poster who calls herself sadspacemonkey. Her post was entitled "Why tripping is much better than therapy". She got off anti depressants after tripping but has no one in her life who supports her desire to trip again. Maybe you could give her some kudos for being brave like you via the forum.
Thanks

It could be a good thing as it seems your intentions are pure.  My only advice, since you are new to the experience, is to not grasp at the thoughts as they go by in your mind.  If you latch onto a bad one it could drag you down with it into a nasty spiral.  Just try to be the "observer".  Try to step back and watch how your mind works as it comes into contact with these thoughts.  How it reacts to them.  If you're lucky it will give you an objective view of how your mind processes stimuli and may give you an idea of how to change your thought processes that make you sad.

It's all in your perspective, man!

Oh, is your girlfriend experienced with pyschedelics?  If not then even the best of intentions on her part may only obstruct or distract where you want to go.  Remember, you will be in an entirely different headspace than you normally are and she will not be.  It would be fine for her to sit for you, but guiding a trip is a different story if the person isn't experienced with pyschedelics IMHO.  She would be coming from a "normal" perspective trying to guide you while you are not in one.  I would think that it would be best to be guided by someone who knows exactly where you are coming from at the moment. And boy can those moments change quickly!

Here are a coupla things that may be of assitance in your quest:

Best of luck and good vibes!

Absense of evidence is not evidence of absense...

"So really, ordinary reality is a kind of chemical habit, sanctioned by culture, which says it's okay to use certain drugs, eat certain foods, and have certain sexual behaviors. However, when you transcend all this pre-conditioning by returning to the original wisdom of the animal body, then you discover this immense dimension of opportunity. For some people, it is a frightening risk. To me, that's the psychedelic experience."

i think this is a excellent idea..... obviously there are precautions that need to be taken and you shouldn't just pop em down and say woohoo. but with the proper mind set and the proper setting this could be great for transformation. i have had many friends who are not right for a long time after coming off of psychological medication. i think there are very very few people who actually need it. it is extremely over prescribed and can really mess you up. i think some of what you are experiencing might be as a result of coming off of the meds.. i think this might be a great idea especially because you had such a positive experience the first time. just be careful and listen to the mushrooms.. they are here to help you not to hurt you.. good luck brother
