This is the final paragraph to nobel laureate Robert Laughlin's book on emergence in nature. He did quite well in explaining why science, with its reductionist approach, falls far short of explaining most complex phenomena.

The reason?

Most complex phenomena is emergent in nature.

For instance, you can't have temperature with only one atom :wink:
