dunno if i buy that theory but-

i totally feel that. like, it's the same thing, but you see it differently. but if you see it differently, then it is different in a sense.

so it sounds like you're saying people will view spirituality/physicality differently than they do now. how so?

what do you mean when you say physical energies are in the front? physical energies- i guess you either mean consumerism or matter?

Well einstein would not agree.

Since time can actually slow down and speed up, it must exist as an objective phenomenon

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it related to motion?

The late great Terrence Mckenna came up with a remarkable theory he called Novelty theory or Timewave Theory

McKenna's Time Wave thing has been thoroughly discredited by a mathematician named Matthew Watkins. Further, McKenna himself admitted that his Time Wave thing was bunk after Watkins finished with it.

From "Autopsy for a Mathematical Hallucination?"

http://serendipity.nofadz.com/ft/autopsy.html

"Recently, while in Mexico at the classic Maya site of Palenque, I made the aquaintance of a young British mathematician and psychokinesiologist named Matthew Watkins. Watkins offered the strongest and most interesting critique of the timewave and the assumptions of its construction yet made. Watkins is confident that he has condensed the theory of the timewave into a formula (given below) and is further convinced that there is no rational basis for assuming that the timewave represents the fluctuation of any quantity which can be meaningfully understood as 'novelty'." -- Terence McKenna

And a few key excerpts:

Strangely, McKenna's description of the derivation fails to yield the data points which appear in the appendix and which have been used since.

and

By the final discussion he [McKenna] seemed to have fully grasped the nature of the problem, and had admitted that the theory appeared to have "no basis in rational thought".

and

As a mathematician who has met and talked with him [McKenna], who is sympathetic with the majority of his other work, and who is only interested in spreading clarity, I must conclude that the "timewave" cannot be taken to be what McKenna claims it is.

Of course, the complete debunking of the basis for a True Believer's beliefs has never stopped one from continuing to believe anyway.

yea. It makes no sense that EVERYTHING slows its pace just because of motion unless everything follows some kind of medium of change (time)

By the way, my prediction of what will happen in 2012:

When nothing special happens, the True Beleivers will change the prediction and say that 2012 is when the changes BEGIN and they will become evident over the next several decades.

Nevermind that they're all saying we're CURRENTLY IN the beginning (they love to point to the Middle East as evidence) and 2012 will be when a drastic change will occur.

I can't wait to bring this thread up in 2013 and say "neener, neener!"

The 2012 believers are no different than the 1999 Nostradamus end-of-world believers are no different than the Harmonic Convergence believers are no different than the Edgar Cayce believers and so on back into ancient history.

Because these non-events are ALL based on irrationality, when the dates predicted came and went with nothing extraordinary happening; there was never a single recanting. No, the void was filled with - you guessed it! - yet more irrationality.

Your expectations that these predictors will be embarassed or wake up only shows your lack of understanding of the hypnotized mindset you are dealing with.

If by that you mean that time exists, then I would scientifically agree, but if you seem to imply what the connotation applies, that time is an absolute phenomenon, then Einstein said quite the opposite. Spacetime is relative to the point you are measuring it from, and the motion you are in changes the measurement of time. Having a single moment universal throughout the universe is irrelevant, as time is relative to begin with, so how can the moments pass the same when each observer experiences them differently depending on their motion?

Well If time were absolute, it would be difficult, or impossible to tell if it even exists. But since it is changabe and relative, it exists.
So, no I was saying that time is objective as in "not an abstract human concept" but as some kind of 4th dimension

People, Its not I was trying to PROVE anything, or win anyone over to my own ideas. And as I said, I am always open to other people's points of view. This is not a contest of who is right or wrong. And dont worry Egghead, I am not losing sleep over it or thinking too much on it to get in the way of my own creativity molding my life. I just think its an interesting subject, and we will all just have to wait and see what really happens, if anything at all.

To me its interesting just how much is happening on the news compared to just ten years ago. It does seem as though we are having greater numbers of major events take place these. I was in Florida last year and went through 3 of the 4 hurricanes. It does seem like natural extremes are on the rise. Is this trend going to keep on rising?
I am not trying to predict the end of the world or anything specific. But I do think there is something to 2012, just not sure exactly what.
And Terrence was onto something, whether or not the pattern fits perfectly with the math. The pattern is still pretty easy for anyone to see looking back on time. But you can find patterns all over in nature. They are everywhere. I just think this one is pretty cool.

To me its interesting just how much is happening on the news compared to just ten years ago.

Similar comments were made before and during WWII especially re the Antichrist (Hitler), and again in the 50s re civil rights riots, and again in the 60s re Vietnam and Berkeley, and again in the 90s re Waco, and today re Iraq. None of these had anything to do with mysticism.

I was in Florida last year and went through 3 of the 4 hurricanes. It does seem like natural extremes are on the rise.

I live here (Fort Lauderdale) and went through all of them. They seemed perfectly natural to me, especially since the elevated activity was forecast by the Accumulated Cyclone Energy Index published by NOAA scientists. This season is shaping up to be another doozy.

None of this is mystical.

I was actually going to make a post about 2012, asking for people to try to persuade me to think that its true, because honestly i think we're fucked if some kind of global mind shift doesn't happen some time in the near future. I'm putting all my hopes in the unfolding of this event, i really want things to change.

Most of us want things to change. I get you, there will come a time when reality itself will be not enough to suit our needs. I feel we are starting to see that...

Being around and teenaged in the 70s I heard all of the predictions for doom or change. I believed many of them and all of them that put a date on things turned out to be dead wrong.

Hey! It all should have blown up years ago! Interesting that it hasn't don't you think. I have thought about this a lot.

What if it's supposed to stay like this. Maybe this is just a classroom and this is the lesson. Makes more sense now to me than doomsday or the beatiful dawn of total love and peace.  Just another idea for the hopper.

Nobody ever talked about 2012 being the end of the world or any doomsday scenario like that.

What kind of predictions of positive change were going around in the 70s?

And if life is a lesson and we're really in one big classroom, wouldn't it make sense that at one point we reach a next level, like a superior grade within which we have new things to learn?

Well in the 70s we all though the youth movement of drugs, sex and rock and roll, environmental awareness, the summer of love, would change the whole country, stop the wars, and we would all live in big communes as one big loving family, ect, ect.

None of that happened. Some things got a little better and some got worse. Many of those radical hippies are now republicans and democrats and would cut your throat for a dime. Figuratively of course.

So I've seen all the predictions just like Swami has mentioned. I don't believe them anymore.

As far as graduation from all of this. Maybe that's called death.

Actually the hippy movemenet was happening even outside US,
It was happening even in Yugoslavia, even thought it was a socialist country. Well I'm guessing there were no drugs sex rock and hippies in more extreme socialisms/communisms like Hungary and SSSR, but it was definitively the thing here, regardless of what authorities thought (they called it the evil from the west or something like that)
