i once heard a rumor that in 2012 we'll start to evolve into this alien looking thing, with big heads and big eyes, i can't seem to find anything about it, please hook me up.

ONE guy, posting in usenet, presenting vague, unverifiable credentials and making statements uncorroborated by any peer-reviewed science journal is very impressive to the True Believer, but it doesn't carry much weight with me. Sorry.  :thumbdown:

We've been entering in the outer reaches of it for some time.

Why can't I see it?

According to you, the Photon thingie is:

an immense region of space which is radiating intense electromagnetic radiation throughout the visible spectrum

If we've been entering the outer reaches of it for some time I should be seeing something by now, don't you think? I mean, meteors as small as a grain of sand make spectacular displays in the night sky; why not the Photon thingie? :sad:

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

interesting how it switches from 2012 is predicted as the end of the world... to prove there is a Photon Band by a peer-reviewed journal of astronomers, whatever that is. I looked, but I'm not wasting all night looking for you. photon is a very common word used in astrology. I don't even know what a peer reviewed journal is or where to find one.

I'm glad we've got this settled :wink:

when light is absorbed or emitted by an object (matter), the absorbtion or emission even occurs  at the atoms  of the object.  When light of a certain frequency is absorbed by an atom, the energy is tranferred from the light TO the atom.  In this  absorbtion event, the photn vanishes and the atom is said to absorb it.  When the light is EMITTED by an atom, an energy is tranferred from the atome TO the light.  In this emission event, a photon suddenly appears and the atom is said to emit it. Thus we have photon absorption and photon emission by atoms in an object. 

so where is the source of this beam of light large enough to cover our solar system, and just our solar system for thousands of years without have any other objects get in its way?

as long as there is a source for this thing, cause it ought to be really huge!!

then again a lot of things is space are huge.

i do recognize that science isn't even close to being the end all of discussion, but at the same time the definitions we come up with for certain objects are observable and are there for a reason :wink:

one thing i think is different is that all the previous prophecies listed had religious or spritual groundings, whereas some current doomsday theories (mayan calender 2012 not included) are based on more real world observation and science. Global warming, enviromental destruction, mass extinction, destruction of the rainforests, nucleur armaments capable of destroying life on earthh (mostly) , increasing international strife and risk of WMD's...

and then that combined with superstitious beliefs from various traditions (many of which roughly correlate) can make some people a bit skittish/

no one will know what will happen or when though so best to prepare and enjoy life.

peer reviewed journal is

A journal with stories about discoveries by scientists whose findings have been reviewed and verified by their peers ie other scientists. This prevents fraudulent claims on the results of experiments and such.

I've heard about this photon belt a lot in the past and I expect to hear more in the future, so it would be nice if a science journal had info on it. They don't need to say that we'll all get big eyes and look like aliens, just that it exists, cause that's probably all they would say.

FAMILY RADIO NETWORK? what the hell is that. There are alot of people and groups on there that aren't looked upon highly. If random people guess the end of the world then you are gonna have alot of statistics like that. But as Shroomism said the Maya calender isn't even the end of the world. Its the passing into a new phase.
