Disco, I’ve had good success with PF cakes. What are you inoculating with?

Haha, give up, take a break till fall comes . It’s perfect time to clean up all shits on agar tho

I’ve been having a fun time with the Canary Seed DLC. It seems that just about everything does great on it. I hadn’t tried cubes or semps, though. The shoebox came out quite beefy, we’ll see how the flat tray finishes up. Both are on CV+, spawn is canary seed for the shoebie, canary seed & rye for the tray. Both 1:3 give or take

Jesus... I'm always impressed with your grows man.

On another note I harvested 350g of tiny Semps+ the side and bottom pins today. Not bad at all for these boxes but I'm hoping the other ones perform even better:awesome:

Are Subtropi species best for tote or shoebox like environments? I am intrigued if there's many successful growlogs using monotubs with full canopies?

Good day I have a jar inoculated on May 16th. It doesn't look terribly good, but none of mine ever does and still fruit.

I'm going in holiday in a month for three weeks and I was wondering what's the best strategy, keep the jar in the fridge for almost two months or spawn it in a shoebox, let it colonize and then put the showbiz in the fridge (maybe sunk it too) for a month and a half?

Give away list

It looks more or less fine to me, it looks fine on grain, but when I spawn it, every time it ends up contaminated. I've did many jars with diffrent plates, I extended the sterilization time to 3h. I'm always super careful in SAB and I use the same coir for cubes without any problems. I only have this problem with Semps. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and it drives me crazy. Maybe coir is the problem and I need to do proper pasteurization instead of regular bucket tek?

The bucket tek probably isn't the issue, that's what I use and I've got 4 healthy HVC boxes and 4 healthy TS boxes which were only bucket tekked going atm and I've done this every time I've grown semps. Have you checked the nutritional value of your coir? A while back I had horrible issues with a lot of species due to changing to a new brand of coir which had nutrients added, which brand are you using?

I'm having the exact same problems as you oktopus, looks fine and then contaminates after spawning like clockwork. I have seen a bunch of posts in this thread before from some quite good growers having the same trouble so dont get discouraged.

That said, I tried doing proper pasteurization of the coir and it gave me my best result so far. Lasted 3 weeks after spawn before it contaminated. Idk how much to read into that result though as I was working with different cultures and plates at the same time.

I know melgo had some trouble and pasteurizing his coir seemed to fix it for him, more details in his exellent writeup. I know a lot of people have success with bucket tek, but afaik pasteurizing the coir wont hurt and it can give you peace of mind eliminating the coir prep as your contam vector.

For me I will be trying to make some AIO jars after the summer holidays, where I mix hydrated grains and coir directly into half-pint jars and then sending it though a PC cycle. Then inoculating it with a wedge in a SAB, and then case and fruit it straight in the jar. I need to narrow my vectors way down and work with as few variables as possible. Hopefully not having to break of the mycelium when spawning will help with some resilience.

My 2 cents as a fellow semperviva struggler
