Printing Semperviva
    #13801059 - 01/17/11 08:30 AM (13 years, 13 days ago)

Hello,

I am getting my first Semperviva fruits, and will be taking prints.

I do not want this to fail.

I have taken fruits for printing in the past that failed because either
the strain just did not want to drop spores, or perhaps I needed to wait
longer for the cap to mature past cap opening.

Can anyone comment on how long I need to let Semperviva fruits mature
before I harvest for prints?

Take care,

JD

No idea about that species.

With cubes, I usually wait till the I see spores starting to drop then print asap.

Good luck man.

This may help, it may not:

http://www.google.ca/images?q=Psilocybe+Semperviva&hl=en&prmd=ivns&source=lnms&tbs=isch:1&ei=vmA0TdS2IcGs8AbZk4n-CA&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&sqi=2&ved=0CA4Q_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=552

The 4th picture in seems to have spores deposited every were, I would
say wait until you see visible spores collecting and then when you
make your print you should be fine.

Stonesun would probably know best tho.

Hey guys,

Well, I PMed SS.  I am sure that whatever else he is doing, it is cool.

Thank you for taking the time.  I will keep an eye on it.  I am happy
to be getting fruits from this one. (It was part of one of two exotic
packs that I bought from SW)

BTW, Base, some nationalities are impossible to "out-indignate"...
...I wanted to land on that flaming newbie in that other thread, but
RR, rightly, locked it down before I could.

LOL, Onward and upward kids,

JD

P.S. Hey EM, your avatars just keep getting weirder....keep up the good work! ;0)

Tell me about it man. Buying canned food and buying pressure canners for home use are two different things.

If I could go and buy an AA in the canned food isle with my canned corn, I would be a happy vibe I tell you what.

Well, they are not much as porn goes, but this is the semperviva:

You can see "fruit #1" that I am watching.

Also, I am getting my first BHT, KS, and PE at the same time:

You can tell which are which...they are three very different strains.

Take care,

JD

JD, I'm sorry but had an extremely busy long weekend,
that's why I didn't get back to you.
As far as the P. semperviva you already surpassed me because
all I got from it were pins and aborts.
Congrats! Seems like you have a couple of fatties there.
They mature very slowly so I'm sure you have a couple of more days to harvest/print
that large guy.
What I do with most of my Psilocybes is observe the gills a couple of times daily
and you usually see a dark-purplish black discoloration with spore maturity on the lamella.
Then you'll know it's time to harvest/print.
Something like this:

Hope it helps!

Hold on there sparky!  Surpassed?  LMFAO!

If I get prints, then you're yours for the asking.

I think that I should use them on the exotics thread to bring more
cool stuff into the circle.

Still laughing....right!

JD

P.S. The Pan Cyan Jamaica is very clean and strong on agar.  Hoo hoo!

That's the thing...it was very standard.

hpoo+verm+gypsum

I think that my SGFC is doing a better job than my GH, as a twin block
has yet to show fruits in the GH.

(I am still working on dialing in perfect GH conditions...I need a less
drenching FAE that runs more often and on a finer timer)

Spawned to bulk on 11/24.  Cased with moist verm on 12/13.

This baby is slow, and that makes maintaining GH conditions harder.
(one time of letting the water run out, and trouble starts...)

But the upside is that, as the name suggests, this species is very hardy.

I wish that I could add more.

Take care,

JD

yep. a ways to go yet. that fat one may not be a good choice imo. the three next to it may be better when they mature. larger caps are preferable. i'm with SS, daily inspection will be needed. i highly recommend a magnifying glass with a built in light. semperviva spores about half the size of cubie spores and can be hard to see. check not only the gills, but the stem under the cap as well as the top of the cap. even check the perlite etc. they really float and air exchange will spread them around.

the good news is once they do start to drop you have a week or two window to catch them. depending on your setup. also, some caps may corugate which is also a sure sign that the window approaches.

good vibes you way! nice work!

*there's some pics in my gallery about four pages in, just after the zapos. the larger fruits in the back of the casing are sporulating.

Wow TCO!
Haven't seen you post in a while.
Both of the P. semperviva and the P. zapotecorum look awesome in your gallery.
I've got both in my greenhouse, hoping to get some fruits.

@JD - Do you have some pictures to update?

What an update.

Both blocks got trich.  Argh!

This is the second tub, with doomed pins:

I can only put it outside, but we are having a Santa Ana and that
is death for above ground fungi.

I may try putting a cover over it.

It is cool to hear from TCO here.  His thread on mycotopia is something
of a benchmark on this species.

I got a tiny amount of fruits from the other tub.  No prints.

I have other tubs coming up though.

I think that I got these too wet too often.

Ah well, this is the learning curve.

Take care all,

JD
