@Captaintrips - damn man.  That's a hell of a nice grow:hatsoff:

Finally got a box of popcorntapateo or whatever they're called going but dropped the box last month and exploded half the casing layer on the floor lol.  Didn't even bother re-covering it.  Left it all fugly.  Only downside is they're coming in uneven AF.  Some decent clusters though.  Shocked they've survived my freezing cold kitchen sitting next to an old propane stove turned on for heat half the time.  Grown on spruce and birch sawdust only.

Has anyone noted alkaloid % with different harvest (day/night) like the psychotria plant

:wexican:
That's a great question. Do you think it's possible for a fruit to have fluctuating alkaloid amounts?

If we imagine it true for a moment, where do they (alks) "go"? Lent to other fruits, passed along along along the decentralised chain before being funneled back into fruits & stabilising at a peak during certain times (as you said of psychotria?)
Simply degrade/oxidise as we see in blueing reaction- perhaps by a rowdy animal sniffing & knocking the fruit- before some metabolic function leads a re upping alkaloid levels for the evening/morning peak?
If so, to what end?
To reach their predetermined, genetic peak psilocybin level for example? (which for hobbyist purpose, I assume is a common goal aside from healthy fruits. So would be useful in determining clone selection, for one idea. Written into the culture itsself.)

All of that could give some mild suggestion- or just a renewed/refreshd imaginative framework- about why psilocybin and related compounds are even produced but there seem to be a million HOWs we have to dig right into, to even suggest a WHY. Love it.
I get to thinking about night blooming plants and that thought in conjunction with the analogy in that gravitropism article makes me imagine some tidal style lunar interaction with some fungal function.
Moonlight equilibrium!
I digress.
:highdog:
@Foreighn2891:
Thank you for the share.

When they say in the text:
(talking about carbon and methane emissions from the metabolic activities)
Quote:
"These gas emissions, which in particular contribute to greenhouse gas‐induced climate change and CO2, may also influence physiological disorders in mushrooms "

Do you think a laying over of your recent Texolo (a physiological disorder perhaps), is a response to enviromental conditions BEYOND simply attraction to light?

Afterall, you noted different gas conditions which suggested sleeping/waking cycles, if say the "sleeping cycle" or designated night is when there is high CO (perhaps because the mushroom is unable to enact some activity to regulate it itsself while "asleep" haha) maybe then, altering your grow paramaters in order to expel the carbon emissions that may be pooling- on the fruits behalf- through the night, would stop them relying on phototropic behaviour for their orientation.
Instead, being able to simply keep going with their original direction from pin stage. Up... Suggesting use of one "style" as a failsafe for the journey to maturation, rather than it being a predetermined multistaged situation (IE: initial reliance on light for direction before "maturing" into relying on internal triggering for direction.)

And I'm not suggesting it (sleep/wake cycle) is related directly to light and that it's that interaction that has bearing on the CO emission (presumably high levels of metabolic activity going on, including secondary IE alkaloid production) rather that it's perhaps related to some cyclical thing in the mushroom sort of reflecting the peaks Lew pointed at in the likes of P.Viridis- most akin to circadian rhythm in my imagination here.
Something to think about I suppose.
I hope that reads easy enough.

The rest of that paper had some interesting stuff, although a large amount was lost on me.

Well, the idea proposed was always that they WERE light sensitive- until such a time (maturation perhaps) that they switch to some other primary means of orientation.

So the question persists.

Is anyone tried to keep them completely without light all the time ? I thought the only one really light sensitive is cordyceps

Hmm, I'm not sure on that one. The idea was just inspired by the way semps can end up ignoring the light direction in favour of straightening up IME.
Not to do with light vs no light on their overall development.

On the zap fruits subject, I always loved the floccose stem and think it's cool to see them laden with water drops in your pics.

🙏🏻🤝 thanks, them reminds me tigers or striped bass fish. wery sensitive to drying out caps and still water in the tray. The amount of water on picture shows how much of water passed true cake during 3 weeks from begging of fruiting .

Nice! Did you use grainspawn or is it literally only sawdust?

Thanks.  Qt of oats and then just sawdust from the woodpile out back.  Like 70% spruce 30% white birch.  Floofy mix, but holds water well.

Looking good Foreighn!

My zapotecorum Texolo are also coming along:

Today

Primordia were first seen just over 2 weeks ago. They are taking their time, but I guess that's about the same as last time.

These guys are a lot more confused which way is up when compared to the last run. I think its because lighting is so inconsistent for this one, gotta work with rapidly changing living situations. But it could be other things too, these guys started out with obviously contaminated spawn and its a different casing as well.

Does anyone recommend letting these go past sporulation before harvesting? I harvested at first spore drop last time and it was still potent, but not as potent as I would have thought.

Them aren’t potent as for example pan syan but 2.5 gr dry will move roof away for sure

Hi. Wavyedge, have ever tried to cut off those bags and let them stay without any support from the sides, so water just drains out naturally ?

Hello everyone. I just received an agar wedge of p. Zapotecorum, but I don’t have any more information than that. I’m seeing varieties like texolo and popocatapetl, but I don’t know what variety I have. Do you guys think if I post pictures of the fruits when the time comes that somebody here might know the variety? Or are they not visually distinct enough? Thanks, all of the stuff I’ve found about them is outdated and doesn’t talk about the varieties.

Thanks🤝 I got holes on the bottom of tray to ovoid drawn them, but mycelium is always blocking those holes on begging. Just thinking if let them colonize substrate in the bag and cut it off completely before put for fruiting … concerning if it wouldn’t fall apart tho
