Just made a spore plate from the nerdo/bra/bras friends spore giveaway. I'm excited for germination and I want to try to grow them outside after frost finishes up here in September

I eat a few.  should be real tender.  Its tasty.  No starchiness or crunchiness.

Them made big jobđŸ‘đŸ» that’s probably how mushrooms use us as cordyceps uses ants to spread their spores. My attempt to get them outdoor wasn’t successful. Probably northern cold nights and hot days don’t fits.

It’s var.Texolo and them aren’t fast. entire grow takes around 3-5 months depends on temperature, quickest at +24, slowest at +21. In my experience wasn’t too picky, spawn of wild birds creeds used. Soil mix of mud, fallen leaves of aspen/birch/maple trees (anyone of those was working good), horse manure, peat moss, mid fracture sand (the one for swimming pool filtration) 10/20/20/40/10. same mix used just to cover naked seeds right away after casing. Container with drain holes on bottom to let water drain down in future, then it kept under lid with little went holes on top till knots formed. Once knots sighted, at this point it may go two ways 1. open drain holes and rehydrate under tap, let the water brake mycelium on top and create open soil spots them won’t be colonized again and will be used as a drain for water mist in future, cover with lid and wait till primordial growth to one inch around and then send for fruiting 2. Cover with thin layer of mix of sand and coco 40/60 0.25-0,5 inch and send for fruiting. Fruiting environment should be very wet and constant.  Regular room humidifier runs 1/20 min, and fan runs with intervals 1/15 min. It takes around 1 month to mature.

Lovely stuff. Have you observed any straightening or vertical orienting as they reach final maturity?

Asking as I've noticed (and seen others long notice) subtrop/semp displaying phototroph type behaviour as they grow but as they are approaching "the last leg" they seem to shoot straight upright regardless (IME) of the direction of light and/or airspace (although a trend ranging from often extreme reorientation in a low FAE environment, to more of a fine straightening in an environment where they didn't have such 'reachy' tendancies to begin with)
Having coincidently been reading about gravitropism in fungi:

I got to wondering whether there is some endogenous hormone or something in section Zapatecorum equivilent to this: "fungiflex" (or to plant auxins, say) which on maturing activate to orient a fruiting body for sporulation advantage.
This could be interesting for a few reasons including when to say if the mushroom is truly 'mature'. Also when trying to imagine these in their native wild environment (for those of us currently unable to embark on such an adventure) I can imagine light as ushering them out of some crack or crevice, guiding the pin along before- on becoming mature- straightening independantly to spore.

So I wonder if you'd share- or any other growers of Zaps- if there have been any behaviours or trends in orientation you notice in your grows?
:philososloth:

Anyway I've got the Texolo here to T3 and on some grains (popcorn and seeds for delicate beaks) as we speak.

Excited to see them go!
:blazed:

Yes, last grow them got straight at the end and been grow with light on top. With current grow what was noticed, most of them aiming towards tray with light which stays separate on the side. There’s some more info from internet that some proteins in mushroom bodies are changing structure under light influence and help them to understand day and night. From my own observation with gas analyzer was so that them producing different amount of CO2 in a different time of the day, kind of sleeping and awake conditions

Hmm I wonder on your current grow if eventually they would choose some other way to grow straight, than to the light off to the side- and in theory this being an indicator of when the mushroom is considered mature.

:damnright:

Thats an interesting analogy of sleeping and waking conditions- gets my imagination going around their day & night experience!
And cool that you got to observe a suggestion of it by measuring their co2 on your own grow.

That's a great question. Do you think it's possible for a fruit to have fluctuating alkaloid amounts?

If we imagine it true for a moment, where do they (alks) "go"? Lent to other fruits, passed along along along the decentralised chain before being funneled back into fruits & stabilising at a peak during certain times (as you said of psychotria?)
Simply degrade/oxidise as we see in blueing reaction- perhaps by a rowdy animal sniffing & knocking the fruit- before some metabolic function leads a re upping alkaloid levels for the evening/morning peak?
If so, to what end?
To reach their predetermined, genetic peak psilocybin level for example? (which for hobbyist purpose, I assume is a common goal aside from healthy fruits. So would be useful in determining clone selection, for one idea. Written into the culture itsself.)

All of that could give some mild suggestion- or just a renewed/refreshd imaginative framework- about why psilocybin and related compounds are even produced but there seem to be a million HOWs we have to dig right into, to even suggest a WHY. Love it.
I get to thinking about night blooming plants and that thought in conjunction with the analogy in that gravitropism article makes me imagine some tidal style lunar interaction with some fungal function.
Moonlight equilibrium!
I digress.
:highdog:
@Foreighn2891:
Thank you for the share.

When they say in the text:
(talking about carbon and methane emissions from the metabolic activities)
Quote:
"These gas emissions, which in particular contribute to greenhouse gas‐induced climate change and CO2, may also influence physiological disorders in mushrooms "

Do you think a laying over of your recent Texolo (a physiological disorder perhaps), is a response to enviromental conditions BEYOND simply attraction to light?

Afterall, you noted different gas conditions which suggested sleeping/waking cycles, if say the "sleeping cycle" or designated night is when there is high CO (perhaps because the mushroom is unable to enact some activity to regulate it itsself while "asleep" haha) maybe then, altering your grow paramaters in order to expel the carbon emissions that may be pooling- on the fruits behalf- through the night, would stop them relying on phototropic behaviour for their orientation.
Instead, being able to simply keep going with their original direction from pin stage. Up... Suggesting use of one "style" as a failsafe for the journey to maturation, rather than it being a predetermined multistaged situation (IE: initial reliance on light for direction before "maturing" into relying on internal triggering for direction.)

And I'm not suggesting it (sleep/wake cycle) is related directly to light and that it's that interaction that has bearing on the CO emission (presumably high levels of metabolic activity going on, including secondary IE alkaloid production) rather that it's perhaps related to some cyclical thing in the mushroom sort of reflecting the peaks Lew pointed at in the likes of P.Viridis- most akin to circadian rhythm in my imagination here.
Something to think about I suppose.
I hope that reads easy enough.

The rest of that paper had some interesting stuff, although a large amount was lost on me.

Hey everyone I finally harvested zapotecorum im not certain the strain it was free from someone that sells zapotecorum from Popocatépeti Mexico however the other stuff he gave me for free was stuff not listed for sale on his website.

Im not certain what type of zapotecorum but I really love them took almost 3 weeks from pin to harvest had cubensis flush twice in the time it took for them.

I absolutely love them had a very good trip does anyone else think zapotecorum is slightly bitter?

I was afraid of the darker color plus spores are not necessary when I can clone it.

Some of the caps started turning grey so I harvested and ate the grey caps fresh I didn't want to dry them because thought they would look nasty. Im not sure if it had different effects about 3 hours after I ate it I drank melatonin tea it made it very dream like.

They super powerful I was seeing a tunnel whith swirling when I closed my eyes the melatonin put me to sleep. I woke up at one point sweating profusely and felt like I had been twitching in my sleep but am not certain.
