I think Russia has shown a lot of restraint. But western media won't give them that credit.

Russia's insistence on a buffer zone between them and NATO continues to make more and more sense in the context of Taiwan, Iran, Venezuela. They would have been SO MUCH worse off right now if they did nothing and let NATO set up shop in Ukraine, feeding all their minerals into the Might machine.



Can you imagine if we were as fair with Maduro as Russia was with Zelenskyy? Putin addressed Ukraine before the invasion, saying they don't want to kill people, they just want to secure the (mineral rich) land that NATO is trying to take. And he said he respects Ukraine's right to self determination, so if they want to fight over it, Russia will allow them to make that choice.

Imagine if Trump said "Hey, we're taking the oil, we don't want to fight you for it but we understand if you want to fight us over this." And then proceed to let twenty countries send arms to Venezuela, let them use those weapons against American troops for years, and still not invade the capitol or assassinate their leaders.

Maybe Putin should have just steamrolled Kiev and saved a lot of lives, but then WW3 would have started years ago. He really did everything he could to avoid it coming to that. Remember when Trump praised Putin as a savvy genius for it? Trump learned how to thread the needle from Putin.
