I guess this is the observation for one of the two confirmed sets of genetics going around.

That post is just my summary of Yoshi Amano's podcast so don't take it as gospel. For instance, Yoshi has since said that in a later run the fruiting time for nats was much quicker so that is also not a reliable indicator.

I will go edit that post now with the updated info to help limit further confusion.

This is from the ochra paper.

"Sequences from the holotype of Psilocybe natalensis Gartz, D.A. Reid, M.T. Sm. & Eicker did not match any publicly available sequences and was placed sister to Psilocybe chuxiongensis T. Ma & K.D. Hyde (typified from Yunnan, China) and Psilocybe maluti B. Van der Merwe, Rockefeller & K. Jacobs (typified from South Africa) ( BS; ITS=99, Concat=99). "

So natalesis is closer to these than to cubes or ochra.

Pretty sure those are Ochraceocentrata. Once someone from the community manages to fruit a verified nat culture we should know more and I'll try to update the op post. From my understanding they will look something like this and also produce stones.




I spawned a shoebox about two weeks ago.

Ochra can Express a vast amount of phenotypes especially as we are domesticating it.

Here's a nat pin.  The white dot near the bottom center.  They are very slow to mature.

This is about 40 days from spawn.  Ten days since primoridia were spotted.  Largest mushrooms so far are about 1/2".

12 days since primordia.  Pinned much better than expected but I am getting some aborts.  The caps turn very black. With how slow they grow I'm a bit scared to eat them to be honest they might be really strong lol

Anyway here's some mushroom porn for y'all.  The largest fruits are about 2/3" of an inch now.

Yeah, the aborts are a little worrying. So I've changed my humidity level a little bit and switched to bottom watering for the grass.

It is getting nice out so we're able to open up the house, which will help with the air quality too.

I don't know if the caps will get big enough for me to print, hopefully at least I can swab some.

Might be another week before we know. :shrug:

hello everyone i am from vietnam, i am a new member to this forum although i have been here regularly for many years and just read and learn the knowledge shared by everyone here.

i also have 2 types of mushrooms and according to the mushroom seller call it natalensi+ and natalensi: here is the picture of the 2 types of Nat that i grow, is it natalensi?

my english is not very good if my writing is difficult to understand, please forgive me...

They're both ochracentrata imo.

The veil fragments on the stipe on the lighter colored ones is an ochra characteristic.  While the darker ones, the ochra center in the cap is more apparent.

Natalensis has a solid cap color and does not leave veil remnants on the stipe.
