This is a temporary thing.  This is not fundamentally changing the way our system is structured.  If moves are made that do that, then I will be the first to point it out.  Much of what trump has done will have no legal effect at all, like trying to end birthright citizenship.  What he's accomplishing is a mass-disruption of the system...not an alteration of it.

Pardon me for hopping in here nearly 40,000 replies in .... But I tend to agree.  If Trump wanted to enact durable change, he would have worked with his congressional constituents to pass legislation toward that effect.  By attempting to implement everything via executive order, much of it will not only end up hamstrung in the courts, but whatever might get pushed through can be reversed as easily as it was enacted by the next administration.

Which isn't to say the guy can't do a lot of damage and make a big mess in the interim.  And there is still a non-zero chance of him trying to pull a legit and bona fide coup.  Ideally, our system of government will be up to defend itself against the most terrible of scenarios.  Nevertheless, it seems pretty clear we're in for an ugly and uncertain few years.

Im on board here.
But what if shit continues to devolve.
And americans vote vance in. 8 y3ars of quicksand. What would the ramifications be then?
I get 4 years is just a hike uphill and dems would undo.
But vance wont.
All the hardnose repubs round me love him and his ascendency..
Prepare for the worst kind of deal

Considering everyone is pretty flabbergasted and only the most delusional of his followers are enjoying this. I feel like there’s almost 0 % chance of a republican getting elected next presidential cycle. But it depends who the Democrats put forward I guess.

Don't let the DNC hear you.  They'll try to win by 1 vote with Hillary again or something equally insane

Keep in mind nobody gives a single shit if the republicans lose power for a cycle. All the ruling class would’ve secured their tax cuts, their deregulation, their privatization.

And whatever Democrat gets into power will be as useless as the last 20 of them when it comes to opposing (let alone reversing) that agenda.

If you’re a democrat at this point how do you even have hope in your team? Abject failures who aid and abet the evil fascists at every turn.

NIH websites have been unreliable all weekend, including pubmed, the worlds largest database of medical research and the pubic face of the National Library of Medicine.

Things are already falling apart. NWS laid off radar technicians and now South Dakota has no radar coverage.

Remember way back when there was a debate here on whether Trump was a Russian asset? Maybe the Shroomery political forum will still debate it; the rest of the Western world won't.

As much as it pains the “Red Dawn Wolverine” in me to say this, A good relationship with Russia makes more sense than pissing them off and siding with the Ukraine. Better us and Russia than China and Russia.

I don’t really think we can trust any of them. Every country on the planet has an Elon or two. Difference being they’ve been pulling the strings a lot longer than Elon.

The difference is none of those countries have gone against their treaties agreement and invaded a sovereign nation.

Your take is that we should ignore all of our allies and side with the country that is completely untrustworthy and regularly invades & sabotages their neighbors.

I’d say that’s remarkably stupid and locking yourself in a room with a wolf instead of trusting all of your friends.

Isn't in unusual that a party controlling the executive branch, Senate, and the House can't pass a budget? That was pretty boring to most people anyway, so now we have a little more interesting continuing resolution because the Democrats are back in the game, and in 12 days far more interesting government shutdown.

It all fits in with what I have been saying that the GOP had to just  pretend they were making progress on the budget to avoid the appearance of failure. Now they got failure because they needed 0 dem Senators to advance a budget but 7 for a continuing resolution.

The House is even more interesting, because the fiscal hawks on the right don't like continuous resolutions because they would be voting for Biden's deficit. some have never voted for a CR. Moderates representing low income districts didn't like slashed social programs and would have put many of them out of work in two years. Democrats could play a large role in the House CR.

What's to come is going to be a huge blame game. The Democrats start with the advantage because they haven't screwed anything up since last year, and it wasn't their job to pass a budget. Elon Musk is very unpopular and Trump is polling low on managing the government.

A humorous side note to this right now is House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune working fervently to craft a funding plan that will please Trump, without knowing what agencies they're supposed to be funding.

the two party system has been a huge blame game since I could remember... when something doesn't go according to whatever their party's plan is, they blame the other party... it's been that way forever, that definitely won't be changing any time soon

I just think Russia and China are more dangerous together. Anything we can do to deter that relationship  benefits the US and EU, regardless of what they think.

At the end of the day they’re all self serving and have their own best interest at heart.

If it were up to me I’d say fuck all of em! But that’s of course why it’s not up to me!

Define "good relationship" in this context.
