I've done some roady work for punk bands when I was young. I remember the sound was great.

I am a big fan. While they are not the clearest option, they are cheap and great for pre-pouring agar. Some of the clarity issues I have are because of water spots left by the unavoidable condensation, but it's not so bad.

Here are the ones I just purchased - 20 for $15.99

Here is my most envious agar plate right now, Casper T2:

When pouring agar plates, has anyone tried the proof function on a fancy toaster oven to slowly bring the temp down to 80, and avoid condensation?

Specifically I was thiking of warming the plates up to 120, Then pour the agar, then put them back in at 80 to slowly cool without a large temp differential

I got the same ones the first time around then I found some for cheaper that are identical. I've learned that those are called HG or holy grail containers - see Alien's tek about them.

That set is the 3rd set that Alien calls out and says the lids are defective, I've found a 4th set that are cheaper and did a little write-up about how I use them, and a note about the 'defective lids'. I also link to a few other useful teks (including Alien's).

Not exactly that, but I did try baking the condensation out of primo plates in a 200f oven after PC. Didn't work. Also about half of them contaminated.

:fffuck:

Dumb luck?

Clear ones are water gellan.
500ml distilled water
5g gellan (Low Acyl)
.6g epsom salt

Blue is LME just added 5g of LME
and a couple drops of blue gel food coloring.

Shook up and stirred on stir plate for about 10min
Pc’d and then stirred on stir plate until 140f and then poured.

Looks great!

I’ll have to try gellan someday

Took the cabin sequester plunge today, as long as they don’t all contaminate to shit I think I got a nice feel for it

We will see!

Doing this technique with just a scalpel in a SAB felt like defusing a bomb

Nice.  Big fan of the cabin.

Cleaned up a semp whole stipe clone putting it through a cabin (a transfer, not stipe tissue)

Then I took a plug from that cabin and put it through another cabin just to be sure… I really want a clean semp clone lol

Did a grab and drag of a mak 118 spore swab tuft.

I really like how it turned out.  I was just checking out the method but it’s pretty great… not only for trying to get monos but also just for ms.  I used the tiniest tuft of swab fibers and it wasn’t very full of spores at all.  The spores are contained to those slivers which makes taking transfers a breeze and everything came out nice and clean looking.

Hey faht, just curious why did you never get into agar before?

You seem to have found the "joy" with it which is exciting.

Well, this is part 1 of why..

I used to have dishes I ate off in there and there’s 20-30 more in my fridge.  Ik this is nothing to a lot of ppl but it’s only gonna get worse.

And I didn’t have a ffu/hood.  I get too frustrated when I lose jars or substrates.  Even if I got clean plates to grow in a SAB there’s still the transfer to the jar and that part is the part that would keep me up at night and I’d lose my shit if I lost a ton of jars.  Trust it’s a good thing I waited… one bad loss and I might’ve quit years ago.  I almost did early on when I first started and lost 12 monos at once when I g2g’d all the jars.  That’s when I started doing oven bag shit and came up with my lid design and only worked with SHIPS.  I said I’d never open a jar until I had to spawn it.  So it came down to me getting a ffu.

Well we are glad you stuck with it even after 12 monos going south at once.

Maybe write up a short tek on your Journal. A lot of old timers can't get them that clear. Include brand names.
