I was hunting for tea tins to make no pours easier. Ive got 90mm petris, and one of these PP5 screw tops from Dollar Tree is gonna work out great. The bottom is tapered, so I put a HG container in the bottom to occupy enough space to allow the petri to sit flat without jamming in there.

7 plates to a container aint bad. 🀘

So my FP+ myc keeps doing this weird(to me) things, could someone tell me why and if I should do more transfers because of it?

Stipe said this in another thread. Id keep transferring.

Looks like you have plenty of good transfer candidates though.

That is pretty growth at 9 o'clock I agree, but all the other growth from that transfer looks fine too (as far as I can see).

Kind of, If this is an early transfer then different growth rates could present themselves on the plate more so than a heavily transferred culture.

This thread comes to mind on that point. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=2&Number=24741888&fpart=&PHPSESSID=

Another thing that comes to mind is the potential damage that occurred to the transfer through normal procedure. Could residual heat from your punch/transfer tool have cooked the myc on one side of the transfer causing differing recovery times. Did a little bit of myc get scraped off the transfer or rubbed back onto itself when the transfer was laid on the receiving plate. Most likely not, but something to think about.

But even having said that, the edges are relatively close together and I think that will be apparent the more the plate grows out.

I would transfer that little piece at 9 o'clock out to a new plate, preferably several. But that is just me. I agree it looks clean enough for lc.

And I would wait for that plate to grow out much more before doing any transfers. To see how it grow and look for any contaminates that may pop up.

Here is an example picture of a plate I had using the same transfer methodology the expressed different rates of growth around the edge while being - in my eyes - clean all over.

In my limited experience dealing with scalloped plates, Ive never successfully salvaged any of them. No matter how much transferring all subsequent plates also scallop. If left alone long enough contam showed up in the gaps. Just my 2c

Yeah Stipe said something like that to me once too. But scalloping can also be a trait of being a monokaryon.

Check for clamps, if they're present, try cabin Sequester. If they're not present, you set yourself up for a breeding project.

A lot of condensation...better off letting them cool to room temp in the PC maybe? Gonna let them sit in front of the ffu, but it didn't do much good last time, even after 12hrs. Might just have to deal with the water as I use them.

Might even just go back to pouring, idk.

If I needed plates n had them I used to or just use a cup of hot water but found the swab easier on the plate, sometimes it would get a little soft o top with hot water

Lots of folks parrot the whole scalloped myc is fucked, enmeshed blah blah, nobody this, everybody that, but you'd be surprised how many of them who are so invested in being the authority on mushroom growing, don't actually grow mushrooms, haven't grown mushrooms in years, and never really grew very many mushrooms successfully anyway.

I've seen plenty of "scalloped" cultures fruit out just fine, and I've seen them also have serious issues. I've seen plenty of standard looking cultures have issues as well.

There are a lot of different phenomena that are all being lumped under one roof using the descriptor scalloped.

This Burma clone was consistent in every way. It was consistently scalloped on agar, consistently fucky looking on grain, and consistently produced a great yield of stellar fruits. The dish "BC" is this particular clone and the other dish is another culture of the same line. These are old photos from some years ago. I've been poked fun at for using them still when the situation arises but that is just some kind of penis envy type thing I think.

If someone with some ego trip wants to call me a noob then they are just petty and I'll tell them to go have a juice box and a nap and come back to talk when they have run through a few thousand more cultures.

I ran scalloped FP+ cultures and they were fussy for sure but they did the thing.

Thank you for taking time to answer. Now, I do not have a microscope so I can not look for clamps, I did however try to take more pictures and would appreciate any feedback(if possible from the new pictures) on what my next step would be. I also took some pictures of T0(it was a wedge sent to me) and T1, I don't know if it helps determine my next step, but I really want to clean up my FP+ if possible.

T0

T1

T2(backlight)

T2(closeup)

The T0 is all fluff and white at this point, but I can se some yellow/orange tint in the middle of both T1 plates. Is that normal or contamination? They've been sitting at about 24Β°C(75Β°F).
The T2 does have mycelium in between the scalloping and even tho I do not have a microscope, I don't se any contamination.

Thanks again.

Thanks for sharing your experience with scalloping. I don't know much about it so the more info I can get the better I can understanding it, and glad that two of the comment say it does not have to be contamination. I have no problem doing more transfers, but if all I get is scalloping and all my other plates with other varieties is clean then I might just have to send it to grains to know for sure, would like to hear you opinion after you looked at the new pictures:strokebeard:

Thanks, I just loaded the PC with 3 jars and have to get the LAGM 25' spores to agar today, but I'll get to it in a couple of days for sure. I'll also do some transfers to new plates an reporter back in this thread

You don't just produce a monokaryon by accident. I'm not an egotistical authority either, nor am I passive aggressive. ; )

People produce monokaryons accidentally all the time upon early transfers through grab and drag. Total bs Stipe cmon
