Does this BRF puck look contaminated or is that some sort of bruising? The spots appear blue-ish in color, not that visible on photo though.

The puck has been fully colonized for about 7-10days and started fruiting a few days ago.

those pucks are looking a bit suspect for sure, are they 100% colonized? & if so, how long have they been like that? pinning in vitro like that is usually a stress response unless theyโ€™ve been on the shelf for months. happens a lot with bacteria

It's one puck that's been 100% colonized for about 7-10 days and the blueish spots showed up only recently.

hmm, i still think thatโ€™s a bit soon for it to be pinning in the jar & the bruising is also a little strange. you should probably birth it. dunno what the specific best course of action is tho, i havenโ€™t done PF in years

Thank you. On the "forum index and then mush cult" page I found the blue POST button. I was on the wrong page.
I should have the TEK up on Monday or Tuesday. I left a plate uncovered in front of the flow hood for a full minute to see if it would contaminate. Monday will be 10 days. And I will photograph the exposed plate. So far still no contamination.
Do you think that is a sufficient test or something different?

are you posting a box fan flowhood tek? youโ€™re gonna need a lot more data than a single agar plate open for a minute if so. imo you really need to prove that working in front of the hood is reliable. when you have tools/hands moving around i imagine itโ€™ll cause eddies & shit vs a plate sitting statically with nothing else moving over/around it. personally, if i wanted that kind of tek to be taken seriously i would do multiple grows from spore all the way to harvest to prove that results were reliable. one plate for a minute ainโ€™t gonna cut it for most shroomery users

Hi Hazy. Yes, good point. The plate was exposed for a minute. During that time I was inoculating six other plates so it wasn't just in isolation. I followed the usual precautions, always working "downwind" of the filter to avoid eddies. I do plan to take this to harvest and see..
As for mulltiple harvests, well that takes time.

Hazys point is data. With one trial as your data for an experiment I'd expect some push back. I'd keep experimenting and see where it leads you before claiming a new tek.  Good luck.

:whathesaid:

im not trying to be a hater or anything, i would love to see someone come up with a super affordable flowhood design. the problem is, there have been a million โ€œteksโ€ on cheap flowhoods & they all end up the same. not saying itโ€™s impossible for one to work, but no one thus far has proven a design that is reliable. you absolutely need more data & solid evidence that what youโ€™re doing is as reliable as an SAB or traditional flowhood. just trying to save you from the impending shitstorm clusterfuck that youโ€™ll have posting your tek with that amount of data. thatโ€™s great if itโ€™s worked reliably for you so far, but we are gonna need repeatable & reliable evidence to believe your claims because i promise you people have tried this before & failed

you can get lucky a few times, or have something kind of work, but for something to be taken seriously it has to prove just as reliable as the baseline methods we tend to recommend (ie. an SAB). the shroomery is a goofy website at times, but at its core is an amateur science community & therefore it is expected that there is a reasonable burden of proof for anyone making claims that shake the status quo on here

multiple harvests will take time, so does good data. you need to really prove that this works reliably, every time, to good success or else your post will be picked apart to oblivion. amass a lot of solid data, run some really rigorous testing (doing multiple blank transfers, prove grain jars wonโ€™t contaminate when manipulated in flow, post pics of healthy subs that donโ€™t contaminate during any point of their life etc.) & then post results. one agar plate alone is not even close to enough to prove anything to anyone on here

Not tryin' to start somethin' but there was the recent GordoTek project -- yeah yeah I know someone here got original credit for it, and GordoTek is a pariah here too. But the video about the project was interesting because he used a proper particle counter to verify sterility of the flow, and there was a 5 minute petri dish test too. That isn't a perfect demonstration of its practicality, but it sure seemed like a good start. The project was instantly dismissed here with no further research that I could find, though.

oh dude no sweat, i'm not pressed on it at all. that post just sounded like a fire waiting to happen if it were to be posted right now

just watched the dude's video on it. the particle counter is convincing, i must admit. he does some stuff i wouldn't personally do in front of a hood & some other goofy shit like spawning in the hood, incubator etc. so i definitely see why people here would have clowned on the video but not getting mold all over the agar plates in the tests is definitely interesting

still would need a ton of solid evidence to be accepted on here, but if multiple people could prove them reliable as an SAB i think people would listen. pics of canopies & well documented lack of contams go a long way. it's just one of those things you kinda gotta do surreptitiously until you have undeniably successful results if you're gonna try to make an instructional on it. there's no harm in experimenting, & it's nice when disruptive teks come along to make it more accessible for people. just has to be proven to work reliably long term if you're gonna claim it's totally viable
