Yea i thought so too but check the date. I have lots of other ape plates and none knot earlier than 1.5 months. And none knot up that much. Maybe im just overly suspicious of the myc after being refridgerated several months and looking unlike other myc

Sometimes I'll see this blue on a culture, and I always just assume it's a contaminant of some sort and should be disposed of.  Am I right?

-- it's very hard to see in the photos, but its' not some trick of the light and is definitely a blue coloration.

If you've never grown mushrooms before, here's how you start.  First, follow the Updated PF Tek, put 4 holes in jar lids not 1, and use a water tub! 
The next move is Shoebox Tek. After that you move onto grains, agar, monotubs.  Agar is easy, just do it.

I got that too with my Texas yellow caps, it’s definitely not a tone like trich..
I was contemplating transferring from those spots in hopes those areas would produce higher potency fruits.
Unless of course the blue is due to some sort of damage/drying out like I’ve seen others post about blue myc.

Sounds like systematic dehydration of some sort in the culture if I had to guess.

First time starting germ from spore swab to agar. These are two T1s of yeti:

My question is: is this thick bright white mycelium indicative of a vigorous healthy culture? Or is it thick and dense as a defense mechanism against other microbes?

All looks fine to me and yes, that's probably the best candidate for transfers since it's the fastest growth

I read a post in another thread that made me think of this:
Agar work. Agar to me is focused around the bare minimum essentials. I have to remind myself periodically to get back to the basics. The great part about agar is it’s versatility presents a multitude of options and it lends itself well to poverty. I want a Petri standard, but I had to settle on cups due to circumstances. I’ve done agar out of qt plastic ziplocs, fast food cups before it was fun. Hell I’ve even thought about using empty tea candle tins. Anything that comes sterile even. I was surprised initially at the amount of sterile options available, though I worked in food service; don’t know why it would come as a surprise. To me it’s like the farthest bare minimum you can push it or extend it to is the sexiest. Like to the point of novelty. I find the cups are working out great for now though.

Does anyone have a link for pp5 condiment cups with pp5 lids? All I can find are cups with pp1 lids that deform when I pc them. I did a search but couldn't find anything.

You likely won't find a variety of condiment cups with pp tops. Us that use them pour into them. You can foil them pre-PC and add tops after inoculation though.

Thanks!  So basically you PC the cups, pour them and put the pp1 lid on them?  Ever have issues using non sterile lids?

They come sterile!? How convenient lol. Gonna order some of those asap. I need to up my agar game and buying the pre made petri dishes gets expensive quickly. Makes contaminated plates all the more frustrating.  Yeah, those descriptions are a bit wordy.

You can also tie the bags off gently to allow for ease of opening again. So you don’t have to do 100+ at a time if you so choose: I leave mine in the SAB with magnetic vent covers slapped on until I’m ready to work again.

Good idea! I figure I'll pour as many as 100ml of agar will do at a time. Should keep me going for a while. The small size looks like agar to grain transfers will be easier and quicker to do as well.
