Has anyone tried the Eco Taste brand of agar ?  It says it’s pure seaweed agar. Can be bought at Walmart online.

just as long as the only ingredient is agar you should be good. any added sugar, salt or other things is no good.

i dont even recommend buying pre dyed agar. food coloring can be made of things that may inhibit fungal growth. like sugar/salt

i said pre dyed i like to dye my own.

i just remember reading the back of agar in a chinese store and one of the ingredients was sugar.

even tho on the rest of the package it said 100% pure natural seaweed agar. color added.

I remember when I first started seeing people use those red blocks of agar, seemed like a nightmare to work with compared to the powder.

It's not a nightmare but it is a bit inconvenient. Does have the benefit of not needing weighing, all the sticks I've seen come in packs of two 10gram sticks.

One is "black" and the other "violet". Not very happy with these dyes, they are very weak

I honestly like the faded violet, the soft colors seem to play well.  Definite rip off on the black though, sorry buddy.

I mean it is transferrable but best to stay on the inside of the cup where its nice and colonized. No empty real estate for stray or errant endospores or particles to end up on.

This plate was inoculated from a brf puck I had had in the fridge for some time. I initially noticed the myc just looked a bit off despite it growing seemingly clean. Now its developing bumps. Seems too soon for it to be pinning. What are the odds its enmeshed with mold? What's up with the bumps?
