I mixed the bag like someone recommended yesterday. Should I unwrap the bag and pull some air in through the filter patch to get air inside?
I was worried about doing that and it drying out

Would a ziplock bag with the air squeezed out and a couple desiccant packs be alright for semi-short term storage? (1-2 months at most) maybe even double bagged with desiccant packs?

I know that jars/vacuum sealed bags are ideal, I'm not looking for best practice. I'm just wondering if it's a viable option for a one time situation šŸ¤”

When I was buying shrooms my guy would have like a qp of them in a giant ziplock with no desiccant packs in sight. God knows how long they were stored like that. They were never cracker dry, but they still got you where you were trying to go. I would imagine you would be good double bagged with desiccant packs short term.

Do you have any humidity indicator strips? I’d add one of those and keep an eye on the bag and be ready to put them back in the dehydrator.

This isn’t really conclusive but there’s a lot of good information here. I’m using oats and planning on going no-soak.

I believe desiccant packs are commonly used and I have them in my ounce baggies and they are still orange given when they turn green their over saturated!

I think your fine, I use the 5gm desiccant packs in my ounce shroom baggies or a couple in my qp bags...

So idk I feel like milo would be hard to check the inside of being it is so small. I could picture myself chopping a finger tip off trying lol.
I've never prepped straight milo just the mix in my wbs.
As far as the soak time I don't think it matters too much. I soak until I can get around to it. I wouldn't go much more than 24hrs because the grain will start to ferment after awhile but less than 24 is fine. If I'm not mistaken a lot of people don't even do a soak anymore.
I still do for sure but like I said I'm old school. Still rinse grains, still remove floaters, still soak, still use gypsum when soaking. Who knows I still don't all wrong.

I would love to know the formula/duration to just boil with no soak for Milo...lol

I mean now I'm going just straight to fruiting no sealing off tub so...

There is a no prep tek for Milo. Or maybe Millet.
Admittedly I may have gotten the two confused but I feel like they are both might near the same grain one is a smidge bigger than the other.

I'm getting a little slower in my old age.

If I wasn't so buzzed already I'd find the possibly non existent tek for you.

Edit: here's one from Mr. Sir Ham Loafington himself.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25116362/fpart/1/vc/1
No soak indeed but admittedly I didn't read through it myself. Ok off to bed now.

I saw this picture in your link...

Dry milo on left.  Hydrated milo on right.

I guess I'll just soak for under 24hrs then as I'm boiling cut a Milo in half and check it's hydration through to the center!?

Now I gotta figure out if I want 16qts total for 4-4qt bags, how much dry Milo I'll need?

Quick question,
I have a contaminated growbox of Mazatapec Psilocybe Mayiescens. Shrooms have black spots and honey-like resin.

Deeper in the box there’s a lot of shrooms growing. They look good. Since the top is contaminated should I just dig them up by destroying the "base"? Maybe wait for them to grow bigger or try to grow more stuff in there?

I hate to break it to you but if your surface is contaminated, your hole tub is. I'm not saying nothing they are or aren't edible (IDK TBH), just that you won't dig out clean mushrooms

I would toss that whole thing and not eat any of those. They are infected with several types of unknown bacteria as well as some kind of parasitic fungi that is also unknown. The types of metabolites that are built up in any of that stuff are nowhere close to safe or good. I'm sorry for your loss. Chuck the whole thing.

Is this possibly the development of a fin (at 12 o'clock)? This is from a TW MS plate (not enigma). The strands seem to be "fusing" together in a way I havent seen before.

Not really, I’ve made one post where I asked if the box is contaminated. People said yes and I accepted but there wasn’t a 100% answer if any of them can be saved (ā€œmake teaā€, ā€œuse alcoholā€). I’ve made a second post about the harvest itself together with the shrooms I collected before stuff went bad. Asking if these were good.

No one answered, so I went to quick questions to get it over with. You’re painting a picture of me doing 3 posts called ā€œIs this contaminated?ā€ and not believing the answers. I'm sorry if I'm spamming but I'm not going to plant again for a long time and wanted to make the most of it.

Anything on there looks pretty minor. I'd use them but if I thought they were contam'ed I would be cautious and make nice hot tea out of them to kill off any potentially harmful microbes.

Now now, it's all good. Everybody's welcome here to ask questions regardless of how many times they've asked in other places or here or in their own head or yours. All questions and all answers are on an individual basis like works of art. No finger pointing, or measuring, or calling out or any of that crap. All questions get the respect they deserve. Answers are presumed stand alone statements, people can disagree but please no arguing.

fruits from a quite bacterial jar, spawned on 14th of aug in a deep shoebox. more of an experiment to see if Natalensis will handle the bacteria and how .

guess the marks on the stems and the hole in the cap are bacteria related?
any ideas? still safe to use when properly dried i imagine?
