Spikes can be indicating of contamination. I’m don’t experienced enough but overall that looks okay. Probably just rhizo.

A little rhizo growth in your jar is fine. To me that looks healthy.

My first yetis (presumably bacterial) took two months to fruit. Only one of the shoe boxes even did and it threw out a monster 156G fruit. I took a clone from that and now this shoe box was spawned on 8/31 and being harvested today full of nuggies. Give it even longer as long as it doesnt contam.

Those should have some growing left to do, are they getting soft? That tubs not gona contam lol

That was a response to the other guy more or less for the length of yetis fruiting. Yes this tub is getting quite soft. A few of the fruits had that beginning of yellow where it attaches to the substrate which I don’t like as it’s very soft/mushy. Tearing these apart right now and they’re like all giant clusters attached to each other. Perhaps I coulda waited another day but a lot where soft like a pillow.

Well the caps weren’t soft actually but the bodies are….

Hey guys it's been 2 weeks roughly after inoculation, i've lost two jars to contams, some type of white-gray mold. Given that the contams didn't show after almost 10 days in, i want to think that they got through the dry verm layer during colonization. So i've been researching better filters.

My question is, given i can use both Tyvek (from suits) and polyfill, which one is better? (SFDs are unobtainable here).

Also, i already have standard 4 hole PF-tek jars and i'd rather not buy new ones, would it be fine if i make a big hole in the center for GE and put the filter there, and fill with silicone the 4 inoculation points?

You might want to do a bit more troubleshooting.

Can you elaborate? I'm aware my SAB technique was messy, thought better filters would eliminate one of the variables.

If you are doing standard PF tek, the 4 holes and verm layer should be just fine as gas exchange and air filtration. The issues you are having are most likely from your spore syringes.

Spore syringes are often (if not always) dirty. They are at least 90% of the problem when it comes to cakes.

PF tek has been used since 1991. You’re thinking your contamination was due to the dry vermiculite layer failing. What are the other, more likely possibilities?

All good, thank you for your thoughts ! I got 477.5 wet off of 1 myco quart millet. I probably shouldn’t expect much if any of a second flush eh?

Another third to a half as much if you pull it off.

Millet can be a very productive stuffs.

That looks like AA+ mycelium to me. Not sure what A- is but if it is of the AA+ lineage then that looks pretty normal. I don't see it fighting anything. Looks like a lot of sectoring due it being a MS culture. The colonies might become competitive with eachother, to what end can't be predicted. They will either work together or fight leading to opportunistic molds or bacteria taking over to recycle the life energy that hasn't made the conscious effort to achieving homeostasis.

Awesome good stuff thanks you both! That FP+ is gonna be a PITA…all small noodles less than 2 inches tall and not even as thick as a pencil. This yeti took me 2 hours to harvest and clean ffs. Can only imagine the FP+.
