That's where I'm lost at cause 4-6 jars of spawn and double that amount of CV for a true 1:2 ratio in a 66qt tub would make a paper thin sub depth and would have barely any water in it.

I'm guessing that when these teks say 1:2 ratio they just mean jars to actual quarts of CV. But even then 6 jars of spawn and 12 actual quarts of CV then compressed would be about a 2" deep sub in a 66qt tub.

I go 1:3+ and I don't compress past a little shaking. Ends up about a 3 inch sub, maybe 4. Honestly though I haven't measured in years so in reality it could be 1:4 or more.

I try to keep my toolset as simple as possible in all my hobbies. I like to make simplicity work for me, that way I’m never put out if I can’t source something or if something breaks.

Right now my essentials list is: SAB, half pint jars (always on hand if I can’t get petris), single use scalpel blades, PC, 500ml media bottles, wide mouth quart jars, alcohol lamp, and single use inoculation loops.I do pretty much everything with these few items. They’re simple, reliable, and fit my use case.

I’m not trying to grow on such a large scale, so for me this is just about all I’ll ever need. I’ll probably get things I WANT later, but I can do what I need to do with this. I don’t have physical issues that necessitate specialized equipment, either, thankfully.

That'd make sense. And I assume the bio-efficiency is about a dry zip per jar? I use 9 jars and 12 quarts of CV to make an actual 1:2 ratio of spawn to CV and get about 10 dry zips in 2 flushes. 3" sub with some compression. Maybe I should try 1:3 with my same recipe and see if it produces more.

The thing about a mycology toolset is you think you have everything you want/need and then some clever bastard on here posts something innovative and you have to go out and get yourself one.

For me walking into bargain shops is dangerous. So many things that are obviously not for cult and you think “ooh, that could work!”

I not long ago bought a tool for smoothing icing on cakes. Works great for levelling off substrate in tubs.

That’s me with mini painting. I have so many things I bought for specialized effects, and I do 99% of my work with the same 3 ratty brushes lmao.

8-10 oz dry per mono with 5-6 myco quarts is ideal for me. A lot of that is genetics though. With TAT I don't put more than 5 mycoqts in a 66 purple handle but only tend to pull 6-8 dry. With Playa I'll put upwards of 7 or 8. There are  lot of factors.

2 oz per jar genetics seem about 1 in 20 cultures. It's all a big dice roll.

Ok that's good info and makes sense. My AA+ is what's doing how I described for me.

Quick one:

Upon pasteurisation of HP based sub. What’s the window that it becomes optimal to use? 3-7 days sound about right?

kind of the same thing here too Smellyhobbit.
Essentials : PC, SAB, 2 exactly knives, extra blades, mini rounds, quart wide mouths, shoeboxes, monos, swabs, thermometer, vacuum seal, media bottles , maybe 1 or 2 other small things.

Have had the material to build a hood but haven't gotten to that yet.

Would like to find something new to make cleaner transfers, currently it's the 2nd exacto knife and its a really a horrible practice.

Quick question, how often do you all change your blades ?

Pretty much when it’s too dull to cut the agar accurately. Few months for me.

Given the low price of 100 sterile single use scalpel blades, I change them every time I use them. Sometimes if I’m doing different kinds of blade work, like taking tissue samples from a fruit and then doing agar transfers, I’ll swap the blades out between tasks.

Today's sessions tools. Likely won't handle them all. My pointy thingy/scalpel is my favorite. Likely 10's of thousands of transfers with that sucker. Takes to a nice sharpening and holds heat base from flaming very well.

A stipe/stem that is yellow on the inside towards the base is indicative of bacteria, rot, or allowed to mature too long?

Good question. I’m not 100%. All my larger second flush fruits have yellowing near the base of the stipe. I’m not sure it means all that much. The more “woody” a stipe gets, in my experience, the more yellow it is.

I don’t think it’s negative.

Myc Hunt, a few months is impressive.  There is not mich warping or damage from the flame sterilization ?

Smellyhobbit I've had a pack of different types of blades also but stick with the same through it all.

I guess I change mine out after maybe 2 or 3 sessions, depends how much is goin on through the session though.  Once the blades start leaving a char in the pucks I feel like they've gone too far.

Myc Hunt, I try to let my hp subs sit about that amount of time also.  The longest I've let a batch sit around before getting to it was about 10 days, but I'd rather not.
