Quick question:

Should i attempt to inoculate grain bags with agar wedges without the use of a laminar flowhood?

Can you make a still air box (SAB)?

Torch your blade and don't use iso after you torch and then use ziptie to zip it up after you get your agar in it...

Thanks, this is where I come when I can't find the exact thing I'm looking for with the search function. Also, wouldn't folding them back up gently be better for the SA inside the SAB?

And is there a video anywhere on this that you know of? Can't find dick which is leading me to believe that it's not the best way to go. How much am I increasing my chances of contam if I decide to go with bags in the SAB rather than jars? Thanks in advance for your help.

anyone help with this? sorry to bump...

what to do about this? had overlay and pins seemed to have grown under/poked up through, some have corrected themselves and my cake is drying out because of my climate here. 30% rh. Do i pick the ones that are like this? let them keep going until i get veils broken on the others, then dunk? seems like its about to just like fall off by a piece of myc... only some have corrected themselves.

It's pretty easy, just close bag, then fold it over sideways then take end and bend it over and zip tie...

This person in this video uses hood but at 14:09 just zip ties it...

This guy uses rubber band...

Hey, apologies for the bump. I have a brf/verm cake that did not produce any pins in the FC. It's been over 2 weeks and my other cake is fruiting. Can I re-dunk the cake and reroll it? Or, is it a loss? Thanks!

I had to take the lid off the bottom because it was causing my plates to slant and spill. As you can see I need to get a bigger table because the lip of the tub goes over the edge a little bit. Transfers to the ketchup cups, then oats, then coir/verm. Hopefully it works out.

I wouldn't, but that's just me. I don't see bag to bag working well in a SAB, and if you can't expand your master with a high success rate I don't see the advantage over using jars.

I know that individual environments vary and maintaining the surface conditions needs to be on a visual basis. I'm fine with that. What I was curious about is how much misting(ML/pumps/seconds/whatever) on average would a 1/2 pint wide cake in a properly built SGFC take. This is simply for sanity checking purposes because I have no past basis to go on.

It’s sort of a visual thing. I just give it a heavy mist if it’s dry, maybe spray for 30 seconds or so, until it glistens.

Edit: sorry it’s early for me. I didn’t see SGFC at first. I’ve never used one; I use a water tub. Maybe it’s different between those two things. If so, wait for someone else to chime in.
