Got my first signs of growth on my first plates. With hope the growth is mycelium.

Its a T1 from a MSS to Agar.. and i am not sure if it is Mycelium or Mold :laugh:

New here and trying to figure out agar. I tried transferring them before leaving for vacation for a week then came back to this. The one in a bag is the agar I took the samples from. Sorry for the bad photo but I’m afraid to take it out of the bag because it’s the only one that looks like it’s semi okay. Honestly I’ve read a bit but no idea what I’m looking for still. It all looks the same for me. It’s all just white fuzzy stuff. I don’t know if some of the fuzzy stuff is mold or bacteria or if it’s mycelium. Any help would be great.

Growing again for 1 yr after 15 yr hiatus. 72 2oz sterile cups with MEA. Plan to make transfers this Wed. Then going to millet and spawning to coir/verm in dialed monos.

Just wanted to leave this here.

Wow 72 cups, that is definitly a larger scale than I am working at lol.

I guess I should step up my plans.

I probably wouldn't be doing such a big grow if i didnt feel like i had so much lost time to make up for. I've been doing cakes and agar/rye/shoeboxes for 6mo now. Putting all of my eggs in one basket like this i would say isnt recommended. but what the hell...

You could also see it as dividing your eggs between 72 baskets. You have 72 opportunities to have a prime specimen to make a master from.

I bought some 2 ounce cups, and have agar agar telephone brand, and was going to do potato flakes and corn syrup but before I bought stuff should I do another recipe with the agar agar like the MEA instead of the potatoes?

I'm going off this recipe in this video...

And food coloring is unnecessary correct?

Good coloring is unnecessary. I prefer MEA over potato flakes and corn syrup but I’m a noob. I’ve only done a few batches of each. They both work.

MEA is going to be clear, PDA or BRFA will be cloudy/have particulates. They all grow mycelium. Use what you can get and reliably prep. I have malt extract and brown rice flour on hand, so those are the two that I’ve been making.

Any links to some ME to buy please?

I'd rather not add coloring if I don't have to...

And what's the most common MEA recipe that you guys would recommend, I have a 500ml media bottle...

10g agar to 10g LME to 500ml H2O is standard. Some people use a little less LME, and some use softer (7g) agar for their germination plates

1g of nutritional yeast added to the recipe above really makes a difference. There's often side by side pics in this thread and you just cannot deny the difference the yeast makes.
