Hey guys,

These 2 jars are bacterial but they don't look so bad to me (the condensation in the right one was there since I took it out the PC, it's not from bacteria heat)

My plan is just to top fruit straight in the jars to take prints. Do you all think they would recover from a shake or should I not try my luck?

Thanks

I wouldn't diagnose those as bacterial. I have a high standard though for only calling actual bacteria bacteria, and I have and use a microscope daily. I see no slime, or pooling or anything I'd call bacteria. I do see overly wet grain and burst grains which can slow and alter growth patterns due to the moisture and the starches converted to sugars which now cover all the grains. Naked eye evaluation of microorganisms is pretty weak in general unless it's green or obvious. Mycelium can look a lot of different ways.

Personally I'd shake them. They'll likely be fine.

Did that grain ferment a bit before it went in the pc? A lot of the time the leftover enzymes and metabolites from bacteria and other microbes before pc can be mycotoxic after the pc causing slow, weird, or no growth at all. Looks like a bacterial problem without the bacteria when that happens.

"Bacterial" is one of the main go to old wives tales to explain what is not understood by the cultivator/community yet. It's just one of those things that gets repeated.

(Please feel free to share any bacteria cultures with me that exhibit swarm motility, especially in extreme environments.)

Respect.

Okay.  What is a good option if I want to cool the tent?  Is there any way to chill the water in the fogger?

There isn't a great way to do that. You could cool the water in the fogger but doing that would require purchasing an expensive water chiller device, not to mention that I am not sure how much of an impact it would have on your tent temps anyway - definitely some but how much depends on how often you are fogging and I don't know if the fruits would like the temp swings. A much better option is keeping your room temp proper, with air conditioning. How hot is your room?

hi!

Three questions:

Do I pick this big guy soon?

Does this look too dry to you?

Any ideas as to why I'm not getting any in the middle!?

Okay, maybe 4 - do these look okay to you? Most PE pics I see, don't have the small white dots on the caps.

I had this growkit grew a lot of mycelium on top over first 1 week then was completely dormant until 3 and half week later (I cold shocked it 3 or 4 days ago). Initially I was planning to soak it with water again today after work but as I returned I noticed those 4 little pins. Should I soak it or see how it grows?

Well, I did underline that they were bacterial for a reason: these jars were inoculated with the same LC used on this plates (noct 3 but only have a picture of that one, they all looked the same):

I am almost done cleaning it on agar and soon new jars will be inoculated using clean agar soon.

I appreciate your opinion and expertise, and hope you are right, somehow (that LC was so nasty, just flaming the needle smelled like burning sugar). Maybe the myc "killed" the bacteria in the jar. I don't know if that's even a thing. On some older agar T1s and T2s the bacteria stopped growing, and became darker - straight up looks like it's dying.

I shook the jars 10 hours ago so for now I keep my fingers crossed.

If the big guy is starting to feel soft go ahead and pick him.

Casing does look little dry. Keep it moist but not soaked.

The middle may not be producing due to a better micro climate closer to the sides.

I’d eat it.

Can you inject water into a cake using a syringe rather than soaking it?

Wouldn't that cut down 24 hours of time to a few seconds?

Cakes are usually very dense.  It’s doesn’t absorb easily.  There’s an old af tek where ppl would stick drinking straws into the top of cakes and fill them with water and the cake would slowly take on the h2o and then you fill the straw again until it stops absorbing it.

You can also use a thick casing layer on top and bottom that you water directly over 2-3 days to kind of “slow dunk” the cakes

I had aggressive pins on the last cake I birthed, so I bottom watered it in a Tupperware lid instead of dunking. The bottom of the cake noticeably grew in size and the cake was definitely heavier/engorged. There’s no real reason to stick a needle in your mycelium when there’s all these other options that don’t damage it.

What is the best way / technic to dry sclortia?

Also when spawning shoeboxes is it better to cover the shoebox in foil and poke holes or just use the lid. I've seen it done both ways and wanted to know if it made a difference or if it was just preference.

Thanks

Just crack the lid

I dont even bother dunking most of the time, a heavy mist will usually do the trick.

Quick question: LC users - what kind of timeline do you expect from inoculated grains? When is growth usually first visible?

I usually see growth in about 3 days.
15-20 for full colonization.

Really? I usually see full colonization with just A2G in a little under 2 weeks. Might not be worth the extra step.

Gonna depend alot on how heavy or light you pour it. If you pour enough that atleast 25% is colonized right after germinating, then you're skipping right to 1st shake. 2 weeks a2g sounds a little quick to me, usually takes me a week just to really get it going from the wedge.

Hi, I'm watching video's and studying how to use a PC. I'll probably use whole rye berries and heard somewhere the time to PC in jars differs from the unicorn bags.

On the site I'll grab some rye berries it says 90 minutes at 15 PSI for jars, so how much longer does it have to PC with unicorn bags.

They also say to soak for 12-24 minutes then cook for 15-20 minutes...

https://mushroommediaonline.com/mushroom-substrates/Whole-Rye-Berries-p183543846

I was just going to get bags, then saw they had grain too...

Also when wrapping the bags, which will be 4qt for me, do I wrap the filter inside or outside?

Thanks,

Ok I noc’d some millet jars with 10cc each of some LC. I’ll just keep an eye on them and see what’s what. I did a few grain jars with agar wedges too. I have everything dated, so it should be easy enough to compare. It was about 24 hours ago and I thought I’d see at least a little growth but I suppose not. My estimate of two weeks could be wrong. I haven’t kept records. It might be closer to three, but we’ll see!
