Thank you for the vids. Much appreciated friend.

I think the 3rd video is probably the best and like those above said, he uses syringe, just like other stuff be sterile in front of a flow hood etc...

I had a PDA plate 95% colonized and then BOOM trych.//
Hate this shit especially since alot of my plates have grown over green mold spots (+these pink/orange bubble looking contams-I don't know whether they are bacteria or mold.) and now I'm faced with the decision to try and cut out the bad parts and save or just use them as skeet.

----------
Obvious spots of green mold there covered up with myc when held up to the light.(This is a different plate.)
----------

----------
Photos attached for evaluation and reference. Please tell me what to do O wise ones.
Thanks

PS that large strand in the middle of the plate in the second photo was a ribbon of myc i used to inoculate.

Skeet Skeet Skeet it and video it. PULL!

When plates have otherwise normal(ish) agar but it's puffy, it often is not a good sign.

Quick question, you guys, hope you don't mind...

What do you guys do with leftover healthy, fully-colonized plates? For instance, a plate with a few wedges taken out for grains, but a variety you don't plan to use again for awhile

That easy? Nice! Thank you for the quick answer.

On average, assuming moderately ideal conditions are met, how long will they last in the fridge? Up to a year possible?

In my reading here I've understood two things...

1. In the coldness of the fridge, it will somewhat stall the myc from conlonzing or feeding on the agar!?

2. I think agar and the myc share moisture, so when the agar dries out the myc might become weak to wistand bacteria or just without moisture the agar might dry up hence another reason the myc might become too old or die!?

I'm new and doing a bunch of reading and watching video's as am I on my first grow, but seems yea they could last a year especially if one used a slant with a wood popsicle stick for the myc to feed on!?

myc = mycelium

Masters of agar please inform me if I'm correct or not :stoned:...lol

Got a couple Melmak plates that started pinning. Do I wait for the plate pins to get bigger before transferring?

I'm not an expert but i don't think it matters. Even the smallest pins still contain enough material to start growth on a new plate. In my experience though I've found letting them get a little bigger cuts back on colonization time slightly.

So my thinking on the issue and the reason I ask is I believe the point of transferring a plate pin is to get a quick, clean clone culture.
While you can still do so with a small plate pin. I feel like it would be a lot easier with a larger one since you can easily differentiate between growth from the pin itself and the mycelium that will be transferred with the pin if the pin is larger.
Also if you have a larger pin you can take just the end of it instead of the lower portion that will still contain mycelium from the MS culture.
Or am I just completely overthinking here.

I've revitalized after 7 months. Probably could have easily done more.

You can always take a transfer and then put them back in the fridge any time.

Hey there shroomies,

Quick question please, I'm trying to grow B+ on agar from a print. This looks pretty good to me but want to check this isn't some weird contam that I'm not aware of. Am I ok here?

Also, I'm going to do a couple of agar to agar transfers, am I close to the point at which I should do the transfers?

Thanks alot for all the advice!

Transporeter: It does matter.

You probably shouldn't give advice when you don't know, at least here.

It's OK to not comment. We are protective about this on here, calling that out is how we keep misinformation from spreading on here. It's part of why Shroomery is better than Reddit for grow advice. Any old b.s. is OK on Reddit.

If you have a culture in a plate that's not a clone, and you clone a plin (plate pin), you have a clone. That's how I got my strongest culture.

Your mileage may vary, but at least you'll get a grow that is  consistent in strength, and in when it fruits. Shrooms grown from spores aren't as consistent as clones. Clones are generally the goal here.

If you wait for a plin, and cut that without pulling any of the mycelium below it, and it hasn't dropped spores yet, cut it off with a flame-sterilized scalpel a tiny bit above the plate, that's the easiest way to clone.

And will likely be clean if your plate is clean.

Sometimes cloning a larger shroom grown in the open air will introduce contams. Though you can minimize the chance by cloning from inside the stipe or inside the cap.

Don't wait for plins to get too big, they'll drop spores. If that happens anywhere on the plate and you clone a pin, you're not sure it's a clone. What you grow might be starting over from spores, or have some of that.

Pick the best looking plins to transfer, either biggest (without dropping spores) or fattest, or fastest growing, or the first to appear. They don't have to "get bigger to cut down colonization time" though.

Welcome both of you.
and Grind365, where do you get those little Petri plates? how many cm across?  I want some.

Sorry day one stuff there. I'll keep it a hundred from now on. Best regards

PS I want some of those petri dishes too. I heard some people use the glass ones, but i've heard they might be more trouble than they're worth $ wise. What can I use other than a plastic petri dish other than a glad mini-round? (I do no-pour agar with those)

You can pour using little condiment cups.. I've gotten the ones from Walmart to pour in $3 for 50... or if you look up crack-plates I guess they can be reusable

Yeah.. as long as they're sealed, they should be sterile

A few months depending on the thickness of the agar and they'll dry out like a thin cracker
