I’m using no-pours now until my filter arrives so I’ll probably make the switch to legit plates then, but for now in the SAB, that extra time open and switching doesn’t seem worth it.


I have started using a sacrificial plate just for cooling. I take the top off in the SAB and just keep going back to it for the session. Then I cap and tape it back up for next time. If it still doesn't show any contams at the start of the next session I use it, otherwise I just grab a new one. It is faster and keeps the transfer plate prettier.

All D3's plates look like that, its the D3 standard.
That's what I call it personally when I do my plates, I use the D3 standard.
Usually I don't meet his standard but one can try.
My xfers are all triangles and not circular :stoned:

That's right and I read that from some veterans here.

Be the sizzle! Think about it, you don't want contams so what
could be better than sizzling down the sides of a wedge.
Now your wedge is clean on those side, the myc further in is untouched.

Since I'm getting the feeling it's rude to quote without permission,
I'll leave it at that. Trust me I didn't get this idea on FB!

I can say from experience that it won't kill the myc... although its not something I would regularly recommend...

Depends what I’m doing, if I’m picking up a wedge/puck I don’t want my blade melting into it. If I’m cutting a plate up for a jar I’ll go in hot. But mostly They cool down so quick I don’t even think about it.

Not fan of sputtering splattering agar though.

I've had this idea while I was taking transfers to just say fuckit but i've been unsure. Like d3monic said if i'm picking up a puck I'd rather cool it but for transfers it would be nice to not have to cool it down everytime, takes up extra time when doing 20 transfers lol.

Although I hate that sound of sizzling my mycelium which puts me off.

I like the idea of a dedicated plate for cooling. If for not other reason than keeping the plates looking a little nicer.

Going in hot would be a way to describe what I’m currently doing too. I put it in the hot scalpel right in front of where I’m cutting my wedge, it sizzles then stops, then I cut the wedge and transfer.

I really can’t think of anytime I got a bad/dirty transfer and felt like it was from cutting hot. If others feel differently I’d love to hear.
