Speaking of glow in the dark I always think about growing some of the bioluminescent mushrooms but haven’t done it yet.

Anybody run them any of them? Some of the pictures look awesome, it would be cool just to have on a shelf in my room a night. If mushrooms lived a reasonable amount of time I’d be all over it.

I bet glow agar would make some good pictures if you can figure it out.

I tried knocking up some vivariums years ago but had no idea what I was doing. Just sprinkled the spores around

Wikipedia says that one of them can fruit for 1-3 months. It also looks like one of the pictures was taken with an exposure time of almost 9 minutes.

I made up some grain water plates 8 or 9 days ago and put a drop from a vendor syringe onto each. The tops of the plates are a huge mess of bacteria but 4 or 5 days after I made the plates I noticed some spots that were either in or underneath the agar. I checked in on them again today and the spots are definitely growing, and I'm wondering what I've got here.

Those are the clearest pics I could get of 2 of my plates but they all have similar spots on them. Is that spot in the middle of the first pic some myc? Did it just grow down through the agar to get away from whatever shit is growing on the top of the plate? The kind of weird thing is that the spots are all over the plate and not just under the drop that I initially put on there.

If it is myc there's no reason not to try and transfer it, right?

AFAIK mycelium grows on top of the agar medium and won't dive down.
So it's probably just some other form of contamination if the tops are all fucked anyway.
I'm still a noob so take this with a grain of salt.

A.k.a. - I've got some bioluminescent panellus stipticus going now. It grows slow as fuck, like a month to cover a petri. I've got BRF cakes, a supplemented oak bag, and a jar of rye growing out now. Only the BRF cakes are done. I spent a few minutes in a pitch black closet and couldn't see any glow from it... will see what happens with time. Apparently a low pH substrate makes it glow better.

Search here for grow logs, there's a few from years back. Blue Helix was doing a fair bit. Apparently fruiting works best from straight wood chips, no grain. Most people couldn't even get it to pin so I'm not holding out much hope.

Thanks for the info on the glow, from what I’ve read a lot grow very faintly and some only the myc or parts of the fruit glow too. Definitely gonna look up some logs.

I’ve got a real nice gt t1 too but it’s ms. Love when it looks nice right away.

What do you guys think about PCing agar in an instant pot? I've got a AA75x that I typically use but it takes a while to heat up and cycle. Just got a big instant pot that will fit my media bottles nicely and it got me thinking...

I tried it once for 25 minutes and had nothing but problems. So I can tell you that didn't cut it.

My pc broke recently and I've been using a breville instant pot. I've had zero issues, agar has been coming out clean, unsure of their max pressure so running for a full 45 minute. Give it a go and see if it'll work for ya :crazy:

I’ve never used my pc for agar or lc.

Instant pot is the shit for liquids. Mine hits 15psi though. If you’re not sure the chicken setting is the one I have to use.

Normally run it 45 mins.

I honestly think if I had to use the pc for agar I wouldn’t have done nearly as much cult as I have. So nice to just drop the bottle in and hit a button. No boiling and venting. Plus it’s all timer so I can leave and it’ll switch to keep warm when it’s done so it stays liquid indefinitely til I use it.

You dog! We have an Instant Pot, do you put water in somewhere? My wife uses it.
I see the poultry setting, but it looks like you set the time for 45 min.
Keeping it warm sounds great ☺️.

Yeah I don't have high hopes but I'm going to let them sit around and see what happens. I wonder about myc not traveling through agar though - isn't that how sandwiching and hot pouring work?

Myc and mold will travel to the surface of agar but won't dive unless something is wrong. I've only seen it do that when using food coloring with red#3.
