weeeee finally got some APE myc to look fairly normal on T2, the germ plate and T1 barely even looked like mycelium

Let it grow for a bit. After a week or two the mycelium can potentially outgrow the bacteria.

I've done this myself a few times when using swabs, it works great.

Aka has said the same thing many times now if you don't believe me.

Let the mycelium take hold and hopefully it'll outrun that contam.

Looks like it's only just begun to grow too.

Sexy. What's your agar mix?

Thank you!  Just standard MEA...9 grams LME/10 grams agar/500 ml distilled water.

Yeah it's 5 days now and what looks like myc only appeared today, the swab itself has some threads growing up off it that I considered trying to move to a plate but I'll wait for the growth on the agar.

I don't disbelieve anyone on here  appreciate the advice.

Is this mold or healthy cube mycelium?

I've done quite a bit of research, and am pretty sure it's mold. Especially given the bacterial contamination that is evident along the perimeter of the plate. I was just hoping for a second opinion from more experienced folk before I trash these.

Second plate is similar:

Actually looks like myc...but yeah you got a really bad bacterial infection there too :uhoh:

Ok thanks, I will try to transfer to a new dish to isolate the (hopefully) mycelium from the bacteria.

Definitely an interesting looking Natalensis plate, AKA

Still have some reading to do on whether or not this is a whole different species or just a variety of cubes lol the short amount I did read seemed uncertain

My natalensis MS plate has some similar craziness going on... donโ€™t think Iโ€™ve ever seen such robust growth on a spore swab plate before.

lol yeah I love natalensis germ plates.

It was confirmed to be a separate species a few months back. Took a long time to find out though.

Guys,

I hope to change the way you think about discarding the agar pucks from transferred plates.

Please read my post about the initial, promising results of my "garbage grow."

Just imagine how much fruit that you could have produced from those discards.  Think of the potential yields.  Stop throwing away your "garbage"!

Please try my tek. I welcome your feedback.

Thanks,

Tom

Mycelium is almost infinite. I got over tossing good plates real quick.

Youโ€™re just basically spawning more tubs with leftover myc. Why not put it in the fridge and use it as a master plate if you donโ€™t want to throw it out?

You're missing the intent of this initially successful experiment.

I'm describing how to put used, transferred agar pucks, that many of us typically throw away, to potentially fruitful use.

My initial results are promising.

by the time you get your 4 fruits from that, the grain you initially inoculated has made a couple lbs, great novelty but that's really about it.

Yes, of course. My grains are doing just fine, thanks.

But why not cultivate a few more grams from the agar that most of us typically discard?  There is no downside-side.
