Well that sucks but just my first try with this method. I actually had better luck with making my own prints and using those to make my own syringe to inoculate and got better genetics out of that grow but I'll keep working on my scrapings using agar and do more reading and searching. I was asking cause I had a jar once doing pf tek and got a red spot in one of the jars but I isolated it after birth by dunk and roll by itself and putting it in it's own fruiting chamber alone away from my others and I actually got quite a few off that one cake in probably 4 flushes. Thanks for the input. I'm still learning more and more everyday and I still have barely got my feet wet. 😂 Also the other couple spots of white just starting to grab hold of the agar from the tissue scrapings seem to be myc starting to take hold to me. Do those spots look normal to y'all? They are only about three or 4 days old since I placed scrapings on agar

should I clone these blobs? not sure if that's selecting for bad phenos/genes or not, a plate is a lot different than a tub after all

I just switched to horticultural parafilm for taping up my plates and discovered I stretched it too tight on a few and the tape had ripped along the bottom of the lids exposing the plates to who knows what. :facepalm:

I'm hoping for the best and will be transferring ASAP if I see anything amiss. All the plates were natalensis and their cultures are really kicking ass so I'm not too concerned. But it made me realize I need to be a bit more careful with how far I pull it.

Contams are terrible at navigating obstacles, I’m sure you’re fine. I’ve had it happen a handful of times and didn’t notice until after the fact. How you liking that parifilm vs cling wrap.. sans the tear

I am very much interested in mushrooms and maybe possibly the first one in Bangladesh. I would like to be the first one in Bangladesh to grow magic mushrooms.. Please help a noob from beginning. Where do I get the spore and everything. Somekinda guide would help a lot

I just changed a blade because it would not cut cling wrap, it was dull as a butter knife.

Regarding my earlier post about contams,


This is a test plate for an lc that looked 99% fine but something about it bothered me. A few days after streaking it there was some bacterial dots all over the streaks but they were extremely small and clear, and I had to hold the light at the perfect angle to see it. If I hadn’t been suspicious there’s no way I would’ve ever caught it and would’ve been thinking I was running a clean culture.

Any kind of rack, oven racks, cookie drying racks, stack'em as you see fit.
Mine is from some kind closet organizing deal and I cut the legs for 3".

I saw one where it was a plain rack and the person had added bolts for legs, pretty cool.

The only sign anything might be wrong was early molding after the first flush. I’m noticing my cultures look slightly different on grain now with the hood. It could be a lot of other things but I’m leaning towards my stuff before being mildly dirty.


My biggest fear is that I finally build a hood and I keep getting contams anyway.

I found 6" dish racks at ace hardware. I use one inside my fc and I cut the legs down on another to use in my sab

So, I'm on my second round of inoculating plates for my transition to agar, the first round was a hot mess, as I expected. But my second round seems much cleaner and I've hopes! I posted a thread where I'm gonna be updating as I go to get advice and input in spotting stuff, but wanted to drop by here just because I'm excited to be starting with agar.
