That's no joke. Thanks for the encouragement. I guess I'll just buckle in and be patient. At the rate it's moving I'm guessing it'll take about a month for a quart of oats to colonize?

I'll take a transfer from a BRF puck just to see if there's a difference :shrug:

I'm glad I have like 5 other projects going to keep my mind occupied lol

I just swabbed a couple plates of APE they other day..might take a look in 3 weeks to see if anything happens..fingers crossed cause im dying to get this variety going.

When you clone some oysters but the grain on pasteurized straw water have a much better looking grow. I think i will just clone again.





What do you think about the plate? it has 7 days.

Also how much do you wait after pouring the plates? Whats the minimum?

Here's my APE, I took the circled part and put to a half pint oat jar as a starter jar. I'll knock it up and G2G to three quarts and G2G from there. Took transfers to 3 plates as well. It's from a plate pin. Hoping for something good.

I snagged a pin from a plate and let it grow and threw it in the fridge till I wanted to use. It's a transfer from that plate. My agar recipe is the same as demonic with a little less LME.

A guy I know gave me some of his APE LC, good thing I tested it first. I've never seen purple. It's almost hypnotic. I almost wanna make some tea and just stare at it. It's like a galaxy far far away.

I’ve been doing a lot of transfers recently after some time off and I’ve just been cooling my scalpel in the germination plate before cutting and ultimately moving the wedge to the transfer plate.

Most teks recommend cooling in the new plate before doing the transfer. Maybe it’s because I’m using a SAB, but that extra switching between each plate seems like more of a vector than any benefit.

Is there any real reason to cool in the new plate vs the old?

I belive the logic is basically that the new plate (should be) sterile while the donor plate has already been opened, if only once...

Got it, that makes sense. I usually cool slightly in front of where I’m transferring from and I would be cutting into that area anyway when making the wedge.

I guess there is always a risk of something riding along, but if I’m already interacting with the existing plate anyway, I don’t think it’s a risk (or luckily I haven’t seen a problem yet).

I’m using no-pours now until my filter arrives so I’ll probably make the switch to legit plates then, but for now in the SAB, that extra time open and switching doesn’t seem worth it.
