Ive had a couple dishes grow fine for the most part but look wavy almost.

I feel the second probably just needs to be cleaned up a lil better.

I don't mind them moving or the friction needed to move, but empty one's run away from me. Was thinking having slightly heavier plates as the base would mitigate some of my fumbliness and make it easier to "feel" which is the bottom of the actual agar pour stack.

Yeah, I guess I am that clumsy...sad panda.

I have a couple stacks of 3-4 old plates Saran wrapped together in my SAB that I soak a paper towel in iso and drape it over them and use them as stands for plates or lids while I’m working.

I am not sure if this is good or not. Hoping a more experience agar expert can chime in. Just started working with Agar. This is the second time I streaked spores on a dish. I didnt do a zig zag like its suggested, still working out my handwork. It was more like a couple of linear streaks side by side, but kind of sloppy in terms of the application. I streaked the plate 8 days ago. I watched what I believe is spores germinating about 4 days later in one spot, then maybe more germinated? Anyway, it looks gross. I did a transfer as you can see. Then I took it out of my SAB and smelled it. Doesnt really have a smell. I cant smell mushrooms. So, as you can also see, I scraped some up with my finger and tried to smell it. No smell really. Is this all Trich or is there hope for my transfer??

Because I was, at the time, convinced that it was fucked. So I took it out of the SAB and looked closer at it, then smelled it. Then figured, fuck it, go for the gusto, poke at it!! lol

This is a side project really. If I have to start all over again, im not worried about it. Plus its good practice at identifying the good and the bad, and technique.

This print was given to me ever so graciously by a shroomery member. I wanted it because I dont have this variety, and they look cool. I have other irons in the fire so if I have to start again from the print, Im ok with that. Hopefully the transfer is good and I can start from there but it looks so gross. I convinced myself it was garbage. lol

Thats good to know though, because I would love to get this going sooner than later. They are Rusty Whyte. I think it would be pretty awesome to have a mono of white capped mushies! lol

re: picking up plates, using petris with a grip ring is like 3000% better. So much better feedback about what you're actually gripping, everything just feels way better controlled.

Haha thank you for pointing that out. Yes I did a sterile transfer and closed the receiving pasty plate before pulling it out of the SAB and as mentioned "finger fucking it" lol as a just in case. Then after that, I decided to take an open air picture of it and post it up for a concensus.

does this plate look like myc or mold? super hard to tell because its so opaque. (picture is slightly deceiving because of the back light). if it is myc any ideas why it would be so wispy?
