A couple strains Iโ€™m working on

Lookin good as usual. I've been using the food coloring that you recommended in your tek. Have you got around to using the pink bottle? I made a bottle with it and poured 20 plates. The myc is behaving strangely and someone suggested it could be the red dye in the pink color.

I stopped using that color for the same reason. Been sticking with the blue and orange.

Finally getting a good b+ culture from a pin clone. Ive had b+ on plates for like four months and never run it. The plus side to that is itโ€™s been plenty of time to have plates pin, clone them and do some transfers. All my early plates were nuts.

One more wedge from that right side should do it.

Ok so the no-pour plate I didn't PC is now showing signs of contam (as expected) but all my PC'd plates are clean. I made the plates on Thursday, so today is day 4. Am I safe to assume the clean plates are actually clean and start working with them??

Man, I'm so glad that you said that. I thought I did something wrong and couldn't figure it out. Thr blue and orange are great. Anything I should know about the purple?

Some brands breakdown in the pc. Wilton neon gel holds its color well but as we were discussing above myc been acting funny on the magenta.

I inoculated 10 magenta plates and 8 teal plates with a spore print. The teal plates germinated in 3 days and the magenta plates still havent germinated. I took 3 good transfers from teal to magenta and the mycelium really slowed down and eventually started growing down inside of the agar and is expanding at an extremely low rate.

Both the magenta and purple color contain FD&C Red#3 (Erythrosine). I will definitely be tossing out the purple bottle that I made. After doing some very brief reading it appears that Erythrosine may have antifungal and or anti bacterial properties.

Hey does anyone have a good place to by petris in bulk? Cases of 500 for less than $100? I tried buying through Weber Scientific, $56 a case and I got an email this morning telling me to shove my peasant money up my ass. Iโ€™m seeing most cases go for between 90 and 100 and Iโ€™m just wondering if thatโ€™s standard right now. Thanks!

Anyone have experience with these? Theyโ€™re not stackable which can be a pain in the ass but whatever.

Those are pretty cheap. I might get some. A little extra attention to the vent holes on the top while you're wrapping and they should be fine. Who cares if they're not stackable? Chances are you're gonna throw them out after you use them so the cheaper, the better.

Finally a transfer that appears to be clean. Hopefully in a couple weeks this will be ready to go to oats.

What's wrong with fuzziness? As long as it's colonizing at a steady rate and the culture is clean, why worry about it?

500 plates should last you a while unless you have a shit load of projects going on. Even if you're paying $100.00 flat, thats like 20 cents per plate.

Try taking wedges like 1/4 that size, theyโ€™ll clean up a lot quicker. Definitely looks like itโ€™ll be good for grain soon.

I am an old hand but new to agar. I am very good at pf tek and g2g transfers. My question is this.

Would it be faster/easier to just grow out my normal MS grow and clone the best shrooms on agar? Verses isolation.

This is currently what I am doing I just want some input from you guys who know more about agar than I do.

Its all about what you are trying to do. Isolation is a waste of time.

I find going to agar first a lot more reliable but to each their own
